About Waltzing Matilda Aviation

Waltzing Matilda Aviation (WMA) is an FAA Part 135 jet charter operator based in Boston, in the US state of Massachusetts. WMA began private charter operations within the Boston area in June 2008. The company is currently in a process of applying for its scheduled services air operators certificate, and is currently in the process of launching a new scheduled passenger airline, which will be branded as ‘Connect Airlines’.

The CEO of Waltzing Matilda Aviation is John Thomas, who is a former executive at Virgin Australia and has had an extensive career advising major airlines around the world. Thomas has stated that the new airline is committed to delivering the world’s most rewarding premium travel experience, and hopes to appeal to business travellers who need to commute or fly for business between Canada and the US.

June 2021 - Waltzing Matilda Aviation launches a new airline

Waltzing Matilda Aviation has established a new airline, branded as ‘Connect Airlines’, which is due to launch in October 2021. The airline will operate transborder flights, to connect Toronto with cities in the Northeast and Midwest of America. Connect Airlines will be a full service and premium airline, focused on convenience, reliability, and comfort.

Waltzing Matilda Aviation to launch new airline to connect Boston with Toronto

Waltzing Matilda Aviation has explained the route strategy behind the launch of its new airline, based on the belief that Toronto’s Billy Bishop is a much more convenient airport for point-to-point travellers flying to the city, rather than Pearson (which is 20km from downtown Toronto). CEO, John Thomas, believes that there is a strong market that will appreciate the airline’s business offering. Connect Airlines will initially target US business travellers, who need to day trip to Toronto for business, but Thomas also believes that there will be potential to target leisure travellers as well.
