Flying with Infants and Children

Children (2-12 years)

Children above 2 will need their own seats. On flights within Canada and the US, the fare is that of an adult’s fare. On international flights, a reduced children’s fare applies (for children between 2 and 12). To ensure you are seated with your child, it is always better to select them when you book your flight.

When checking-in, those with children under 6 can head to the Family Check-in counter (available at Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) and for domestic or international flights from Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) and Vancouver International Airport) - kids can also pick up a special fee luggage tag. On flights within North America, an activity book will be provided onboard; on international flights, tote bag filled with goodies will be offered!

One stroller for each child can be checked in for free, plus applicable baggage allowance.

Babies (7 days-2 years)

Infants are below the age of 2. Within Canada, infants can sit on an adults lap for no charge; within the US, only taxes apply; on international flights, the fare is 10% that of an adult’s ticket. If a seat for the infant is preferred, children’s fares apply (see above).

Bassinets can be requested before flying - however, the airline will be unable to confirm availability until the time of the flight's departure.

One stroller for each infant can be checked in for free.

You'll need to let the airline know in advance of travel if you plan on travelling with your cat or dog in either the cabin or in the baggage compartment. If you have made your booking through Alternative Airlines, this can be done by contacting Alternative Airlines’ customer service team. It is recommended that this is done within 24 hours of completing your booking in case amendments need to be made.
