Braathens Regional Airways (BRA) is a Swedish regional airline in Trollhättan. It operates scheduled services to destinations in Finland, Norway and Sweden. Braathens Regional Aviation AB also operates charter services to more than 60 destinations all over Europe.
Braathens Regional changed its name to Braathens Regional Airways in March 2016 and together with Braathens Regional Aviation started operating all flights for the virtual airline BRA Braathens Regional Airlines uniting the previously separated brands of Malmö Aviation and Sverigeflyg.
Braathens Regional took delivery of its maiden ATR72-600 on Friday, November 6. SE-MKA (cn 1276) was originally destined for MASwings (MY, Kota Kinabalu) where it was to have become 9M-MYE on the Malaysian registry.
The turboprop is the first of five ATR72-600s the Swedish operator committed to as part of an order with Avions de Transport Régional (Toulouse Blagnac) which includes ten options. The new ATR72s will enable Braathens Aviation to replace its ageing fleet of twelve Saab 2000s while adding to its existing fleet of five ATR72-500s (all leased out to fellow BRA - Braathens Regional Airlinesaffiliates Kullaflyg and Gotlandsflyg.)
18th May 2017
Braathens Regional Airlines has entered into a wet-lease agreement with Danish ACMI specialist DAT - Danish Air Transport (DX, Kolding) to wet-lease an ATR72-500 for the period of May 29 to September 3.
The 72-seat aircraft, SE-MDC (msn 894), has just receently been transferred from BRA operating carrier BRA - Braathens Regional Airways to Danish Air Transport. BRA currently operates four ATR72-500s and nine ATR72-600s by itself.
The wet-leased ATR will be used on BRA's domestic network, predominantly on routes from Stockholm's Bromma airport to Ronneby and Umeå.
Braathens Regional Airlines appointed Christian Clemen as CEO
Swedish carrier Braathens Regional has selected French maintenance specialist Sabena Technics to provide rotable component support for an ATR 72 turboprop fleet. The contract is effective this month and covers access to a component pool, equipment warranty management, repairs, and modifications, plus logistics services, says Paris-headquartered Sabena Technics.
In 2012, Golden Air was acquired by Braathens Aviation and the main Trollhättan - Bromma route was taken over by Sverigeflyg. On 1 January 2013, Golden Air changed its name to Braathens Regional while retaining the brand name for its Bromma route. Braathens Regional operates five ATR 72-500s and two 600-series variants. It has an additional seven ATR 72-600s on order. The aircraft will be used to replace Saab 2000s and some of the airline's older ATR 72-500s.

From 2018 the Swedish government is introducing an environment tax for aviation, each passenger has to pay an additional 80 SEK (8,30 €) for each flight to and from Sweden (and domestic flights), a return flight will cost 160 SEK (16,60 €). Long-haul flights will cost the passenger 280 SEK (29 €).
The tax will have a major effect on Swedish domestic flights, specialists expect 4% less air travel. Because these domestic flights are an important market for BRA, the airline has decided to freeze the 3,5 billion order for 5 CS100 and 5 CS300 jets from the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier.
The environmental tax has been fiercely criticized as the new C Series aircraft have a 35-40 percent lower emission per passenger kilometer than the older Avro RJ’s. The board of directors will extend the lease of the much noisier Avro RJ’s, and that will affect the people living near Stockholm Bromma airport.
The decision is a serious blow for Bombardier, which had huge costs to bring out the new C Series.
