El Al Israel may face more competition on its India flights as Air India commences flying four times a week to Israel

This new growth will be implemented from July 14 this year. Air India will now fly a 256-seater Boeing 787 Dreamliner every Saturday, as well as the already scheduled Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. El Al Israel operates flights between Mumbai and Tel Aviv so there may be hints of increased competition for the Israeli airline. El Al will not pursue plan to buy Israir
El Al Israel Airlines have decided to cancel their plan to buy its Isralean rival airline, Israir. El Al Israel Airlines had previously agreed $24 million for Israir but now plans have been scrapped and the buyout will no longer happen. The decision to not go ahead with the merger was a result of Israel's Anti-Trust Authority opposing the buyout would lead to lack of competitive prices if El Al controlled all airlines within Israel.
El Al initially put in an appeal against the Israeli Anti-Trust Authority but after consideration decided to drop the appeal as negotiations were not progressing in the way that El Al hoped they would.

LATAM Airlines is the first airline to fly between Israel and Latin America for 6 years since El Al Israel Airlines
Starting in December, Latam will fly three times a week from Santiago to Tel Aviv via Sao Paulo, ending a 6-year Hiatus. Latin America's largest airline will begin direct operations between the two cities to the joy of frequent flyers. Since El Al Airlines terminated business, passengers have had to take flights which have stopovers in Europe or Africa, increasing the total travel time to at least 18 hours. “This is a unique service for passengers across much of Latin America,” said Jerome Cadier, CEO of Latam Airlines Brazil, which was formed in the 2012 merger of Chile’s LAN and Brazil’s TAM. "No other airline connects Latin America with Israel."
The stop via Sao Paulo on this new route may be influenced by Brazil’s 120,000-strong Jewish community as well as pilgrims from the world’s second-largest Christian population. The Sao Paulo-Tel Aviv leg will take 13 hours, with the return trip lasting 15 hours. Airfares will start at $999. Due to the increased efficiency of planes, this journey is an hour and a half faster than it was when El Al flew the route 6 years ago, however, this may also be beacuse, according to tourism industry sources, the Israeli carrier didn’t fly over certain African countries.

We are confident that this agreement will be a success and be the best option for our mutual passengers,” said David Maimon, President & CEO of EL AL Israel Airlines.
This new code share aims to provide customers with different route options with enhanced flight connectivity possibilities through the airports served by both carriers, such as Toronto in Canada, as well as Amsterdam, London, Madrid, and Paris in Europe, creating more than ten alternative flight schedules between Mexico City and Tel Aviv. The codeshare flights will be available for sale as of August 2nd for travel as of August 14th, 2017.

Announced that 4.5 million passengers are expected to use Ben Gurion Airport this summer. Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport is preparing for a particularly a busy travel period this July and August, with approximately 4.5 million passengers, both Israelis and tourists, expected to pass through its gates as they embark on, and return from, their summer holidays. EL AL Israel Airlines is set to benefit from this increased traffic to Ben Gurion Airport.
EL AL Israel Airlines signed a long term lease agreements with the Aviation Capital Group (ACG) for 2 B787-9s.
“EL AL Israel Airlines is pleased to enter into these lease agreements with ACG and increase our future 787 fleet to a total of sixteen aircraft," David Maimon, the CEO of El Al, said. "The 787 fleet will open a new chapter for EL AL Israel Airlines."
El Al said in a Tel Aviv bourse disclosure the aircraft are set to be delivered in February and October 2018 respectively. A further two B787-8s, acquired by ACG from El Al through sales/lease-back, will deliver in December 2019 and August 2020.
The Israeli carrier is expected to acquire a total of sixteen B787s with options for an additional thirteen aircraft (inclusive of the B787-10 model). The firm orders include nine leased aircraft (five B787-9s and four B787-8s) and seven owned (four B787-9s and three B787-8s).
EL AL Israel Airlines reported $81 million in full-year net profit for 2016, down 24.3% from $107 million net income in 2015. EL AL’s labor dispute with its pilots became acute in October 2015, and continued intermittently through 2016, the airline said. On these occasions, pilots reportedly refused to show up for flights, forcing the airline to lease outside aircraft and crew to accommodate passengers.
