About Alas Uruguay
Alas Uruguay, previously Alas-U, was an Uruguayan airline that offered scheduled passengers services in South America from 2013—2016. Although it was founded in 2013, Alas Uruguay did not fly its inaugural flights until early 2016, when it flew internationally between Carassco International Airport and Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, Paraguay. The airline intended to extend its route network, offering services to both Brazil and Chile. However, in October 2016, the airline ceased operations due to difficulties surrounding contracts with the lease of it’s Boeing 737 aircraft.

Operating from its hub airport, Carrasco International Airport, Alas Uruguay offered domestic services to Punta del Este, as well as international services to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Asunción, Paraguay.

Carrasco International Airport is an international airport based in Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. It has 3 runways, with only 2 in operation. The first passenger terminal was opened in 1947, but in 2007, construction began on a newer, modern terminal which was opened 2 years later in 2009. This new terminal has the capacity for up to 3 million passengers a year, and in 2017 the airport handled over 2 million passengers.
The airport was the hub for Alas Uruguay, but now is the hub for Amaszonas Uruguay. The airport also provides operations for airlines such as Sky Airline, Paranair, Avianca and Gol Airlines.
