About Avianca Perú

Avianca Peru, formerly known as TACA Peru, was an airline based in Lima, Peru. The airline operated domestic and international routes from its main base at Jorge Chávez International Airport and 17 other airports.

The airline was founded in 1999 and was part of the Synergy Group - a group of seven nationally branded airlines (Avianca Ecuador, Avianca Costa Rica, etc.) in the Avianca Holdings group.

In 2020, Avianca announced it would be suspending all operations for Avianca Peru after it filed for bankruptcy protection.

Cabin Classes

Economy Class

Avianca Peru's Economy Class provided a comfortable and affordable travel option for passengers.

Some of the cabin classes' features included standard seating with adjustable headrests and plenty of legroom, an overhead bin locker to store carry-on baggage, a selection of complimentary meals and drinks (including alcoholic beverages on certain flights) and personal seatback screens with access to a selection of the latest movies, TV shows, music and games.

Business Class

Business Class with Avianca Peru provided a premium flight experience to passengers.

Some of the Business Class features included comfortable and spacious seating with fully reclinable seats that transform into flat beds, a dedicated overhead locker for each Business Class passenger, priority check-in, priority boarding, priority baggage handling, complimentary meals and drinks (including wines, spirits and soft drinks), personal seatback screens for access to in-flight entertainment and also exclusive access to Avianca Peru's airport lounges at select locations.


Baggage Allowance

Carry-on Baggage

Passengers were permitted one piece of carry-on baggage. This bag could not weigh more than 10 kg (22 lbs) and not exceed the maximum dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm (21 x 12 x 19 inches).

A personal item was also allowed such as a purse, small backpack or laptop bag.

Checked Baggage

Depending on the destination, the rules for checked baggage could vary when flying with Avianca Peru. Generally, passengers were allowed one piece of checked baggage that couldn't weigh more than 23 kg (50 lbs) and be no larger than the linear dimension of 158 cm / 62 inches (length + width + height).


Check-In Information

Online Check-In

Online check-in was available for Avianca Peru flights. Online check-in could be done through the main Avianca website and would be open up to 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure time.

Airport Check-In

If online check-in was not an option, passengers could check in for Avianca Peru flights at the airport. Self-service kiosks were available as well as dedicated check-in counters.

It was recommended that passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before the flight was scheduled to depart, to allow enough time to check-in, clear security and reach the boarding gate.


In-flight Entertainment

Avianca Peru provided a range of in-flight entertainment options.

This included personal seatback screens that gave passengers access to the latest TV shows, movies, music channels and games.

In-flight magazines and newspapers were also offered on board.


Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi was not available on flights operated by Avianca Peru.


Hub Airport

Jorge Chávez International Airport

Jorge Chávez International Airport is the main international and domestic airport in Peru. It's currently a hub for a handful of airlines include ATSA Airlines, JetSMART Peru, LATAM Peru, Sky Airline Peru and Star Peru.

In 2022, the airport served over 18 million passengers - a 72% increase from the previous year. The busiest routes to this airport are from Santiago de Chile, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Miami, Madrid, Mexico City, Panam City, Sao Paulo, Cancún and Quito, among others.

Before it ceased operations in 2020, Avianca Perú had the following aircraft in its fleet:

  • 1 x Airbus A319-100
  • 2 x Airbus A320-200
  • 1 x Airbus A321-200
  • 1 x Airbus A330-200

It also had 3 x Boeing 737-200s which were retired in 2004.
