About Aviateca
Aviateca is now known as Avianca Guatemala, and is a subsidary of Avianca.
Established in 1929 as Aerovías de Guatemala, the airline was nationalised in 1945 and gained the name Aviateca. It was under government ownership until 1989, when it joined the TACA-organised Airline Alliance of Central America.

Carry-on Baggage
As a subsidary of Avianca, Aviateca (now known as Avianca Guatemala) carry-on baggage allowance is as follows:
Number of items depends on whether the passenger is part of a frequent flyer scheme (such as LifeMiles or the Star Alliance Frequent Flyer program) or not.
Each item, whether the passenger is flying on domestic or international routes, and regardless of class flown, must be of a maximum total length of 115 cm (45 inches) - combined height, length and width.
Aditional permitted items include a coat, photo or video camera, a personal bag, a hat, personal computer (in its case), or a briefcase. There is also allowance for special use items - these include baby strollers (buggies), medical equipment, foldable personal use wheelchairs, and orthapedic devices, such as crutches and canes.
Checked Baggage

The number of items of baggage each passenger can check in for free will depend on the class of the ticket and whether the passenger is a member of a frequent flyer scheme (LifeMiles of Star Alliance), alongside the origin and destination of the journey.
Each item must not exceed the allowed maximum dimensions, which is a sum of 158cm (62 inches) (height+length+weight), and should not exceed the allowed weight. Any items of baggage that exceed the limits will be charged for under the airline's excess baggage rules.
Additional Baggage
Passengers will be able to purchase additional baggage, subject to availability of space on the flight.

La Aurora International Airport
Aviateca (Avianca Guatemala)'s hub airport is La Aurora International Airport, also known as Aeropuerto Internacional La Aurora. It is the primary airport for the country of Guatemala, and is located south of the centre of Guatemala City's centre.
The airport is currently undergoing a regeneration project, and also has the following airlines flying in and out of it: Avianca, Interjet, Maya Island Air, Volaris, Wamos Air, American Airlines, CM Airlines and Aeroméxico.
