The airline was founded in 2001 and began operating services before being acquired and rebranded by Czech Smartwings in 2018. Today, the airline is one of 4 subsidiary airlines operating under the Smartwings branding with the remaining 3 being Smartwings Poland, Smartwings Slovakia and flag carrier Czech Airlines. Smartwings Hungary has its base of operations at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) with Debrecen International Airport (DEB) being a focus city for the airline. The airline serves a range of leisure and holiday destinations across Europe and the Mediterranean and operates primarily charter services. Smartwings Hungary currently operates 1 Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the option to operate further aircraft from owners, Smartwings.
Baggage Policy
Smartwings Hungary has a different baggage policy for carry-on and checked baggage.
Carry-on Baggage
Smartwings Hungary allows all passengers to bring 1 item of cabin baggage with them, this includes a cabin case that should not weigh more than 8kg and should meet the 55x45x25 cm size limitations. If you have selected the airlines 'Plus' or 'Flex' tickets then you are also allowed to bring 1 personal item as well as the cabin case. The personal item has a maximum weight of 3kg and maximum dimensions of 40x30x15 cm. Please be aware that luggage weight pooling is not permitted by the airline.
Checked Baggage
Complimentary checked luggage will only be included with some ticket types. If you have selected the airline's 'Economy Lite' ticket then you won't receive any luggage and will be required to pay 35 EUR if you wish to carry a case with you. However, if travelling on a 'Plus' or 'Flex' ticket then 1 checked bag is included, which should not weigh more than 23kg. If Smartwings Hungary is operating a charter flight on behalf of a tour operator, please check the baggage policy for this company as it may differ.
Passengers with a reservation with Smartwings Hungary will have their baggage allowance displayed on their e-ticket.
Cabin Classes
An all-economy class cabin is installed on Smartwings Hungary's aircraft. There are approximately 189 seats onboard, laid out in a 3 x 3 configuration with around 30–32" (76–81 cm) of seat pitch and 17" (43 cm) of width. Complimentary drinks and snacks are only provided for passengers travelling on a 'Flex' ticket, all other passengers are able to purchase these from the onboard bistro. The airline hasn't installed inflight entertainment screens but offers WiFi packages which include a free option to read the airline's inflight magazine and a 2 EUR option to stream movies from the airline's entertainment app.

Smartwings Hungary offers both online and airport check-in for their flights.
Online Check-in
Passengers travelling on Smartwings Hungary are able to check in online prior to arriving at the airport. All Smartwings branded airlines including Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia and Poland utilise the same online service. Please head to the Smartwings check-in page or visit the airline's 'Smartwings' app to do so. For all flights, online check-in opens 30 hours before the scheduled departure and closes approximately 1 hour before. If travelling with checked luggage then head to the airline's bag drop desks once you arrive at the airport.
Please be aware that if checking in online you are required by law to also have a printed boarding card by Russian and Egyptian authorities. This is only required on departures and not arrivals.
Airport Check-in
Smartwings Hungary also offers airport check-in facilities, please head to one of the Smartwings branded counters when arriving at the airport. Check-in counter times vary depending on route, so please check this before arriving at the airport. However, the facilities usually close 1 hour prior to departure. At Alternative Airlines we recommend arriving at the airport no later than 90 minutes before your scheduled departure.
In-Flight Entertainment & Wi-Fi
Personal seatback TV screens or overhead screens haven't been installed on Smartwings Hungary aircraft. However, the airline has opted to install Wi-Fi on their aircraft. There are 2 options which you can select, the first is their free package which allows you to browse the inflight e-magazine as well as view the status of the flight. The second package is for the benefits of the free service plus the ability to watch TV shows, movies and more on the Smartwings Hungary entertainment app. This service comes at an additional charge of 2 EUR per device but lasts the duration of the flight. To access the entertainment please download the MyWings app prior to departure, pay for the package and then sit back and relax.
Food & Drink
Throughout the flight, the airline offers an onboard bistro for you to purchase a range of drinks, snacks and meals. This includes soft drinks, alcoholic beverages such as wine and spirits, crisps and snacks as well as sandwiches and meal deals. Flex passengers are treated to complimentary food and beverages and are served a light meal during the flight. If Smartwings Hungary is operating a charter flight on behalf of a tour operator then please check with them for the inflight food & drink services as these may be included in your booking.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is the major international airport for Budapest and the largest airport in Hungary. The airport is the base of operations for Smartwings Hungary but also has a large base for fellow Hungarian airline Wizz Air. The airport offers a diverse route network with services to North America, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. Multiple airline types serve the airport making it great for passengers of all budget types, numerous low-cost airlines like Jet2.com, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Easyjet all operate at the airport with full-service airlines such as British Airways, Emirates, Air Canada, Air France and Lufthansa all also operating to Budapest. The airport is also a base for Aeroexpress Regional and RonanAir. The airport is well connected with both local rail and bus services serving the airport to downtown Budapest.

Unaccompanied Minor
When flying with Smartwings Hungary, you can purchase an unaccompanied minor ticket for those aged between 6 and 11 years old. The unaccompanied minor service must be requested and it is only available on Smartwings or Czech Airlines flights. The services are not available on any flight that's operated by another carrier.
