Book Flexi Flight Tickets

Flexible flights

Flexible flights, 'flexi flights' or a 'flexible fare' is an airline ticket that allows you to make changes to the date and time of your flight before departure. Flexi flights are great if you need to bring forward or delay your flight date.

With a flexible flight, you can change a flight as close as 24 hours before the departure date.

You can book flexible flights at Alternative Airlines by checking the fare rules of the flight that you've selected. If the rules state that changes are permitted, you've selected a flexible flight. If the rules state that changes aren't permitted, then your flight is not flexible.

We advise you to buy flexible flights in case you cannot make your flight due to unforeseeable circumstances.

How to book flexible flights with Alternative Airlines

Search for flights

Using the search form at the top of the page, enter your departure and arrival destinations alongside the dates you wish to travel, the number of passengers and cabin class. Then hit 'Search Flights'. Once you decide what flight you want, click 'confirm selection'.

Select your flights

Once you've selected your preferred flight, you'll be taken to a page that lets you enter your contact details for the flight. This is where you can view the fare rules of your ticket. To view the fare rules, click on the drop-down menu that reads 'these are the fare rules of the ticket that you have selected'.

View fare rules

Under the section 'Can I change this ticket?', you'll discover whether changes are permitted for your flight.

If changes are permitted — your flight is a flexible flight ✅

If changes aren't permitted — your flight is not a flexible flight ❌

Please be aware that you may be subject to a $96 administration fee (depending on the airlines policies). However, if you buy the Alternative Airlines Premium Service Package for $26, we will waive the $96 administration fee, making your airline ticket fully flexible and available to change without any additional fees.

Open-ended airline tickets

An open-ended airline ticket has no set date for the return leg, giving you the flexibility to return when you'd like. With an open-ended flight, you're only required to choose a date for the outbound leg and can stay as long as the expiration date is stated on the ticket.

At Alternative Airlines, we don't sell traditional open-ended airline tickets. However, your flexible airline ticket can be used as an open-ended airline ticket. Simply buy a flexible flight with a return date that is as far into the future as possible, and then contact Alternative Airlines if you want to bring forward the return date of that flight.

Cancellation Protection features

Want to protect your flight with Cancellation Protection?

Even if your booking doesn't include a flexible flight, there are ways to ensure you don't lose out on your finances.

If you add Cancellation Protection to your booking, you'll be eligible for a full refund if an emergency prevents you from getting your flights (T&Cs apply).

Cancellation Protection is available for all flights booked with Alternative Airlines. For that added layer of comfort, we recommend spending a little more upfront to get a lot more back.

FAQs

What are flexible flights?

A flexible flight, or a flexi flight, is a flight in which the return date can be changed without having to pay for a whole new ticket.

What does 'flexible flight' mean?

Flexible flights mean that your travel date is flexible and can be moved forward or delayed without significant charge.

Can you book flexible flights?

Yes! Alternative Airlines offers flexible flights with 600+ airlines.

How do flexible flights work?

They allow you to change your flight date without hassle or major charges. If you have a valid ticket, contact us, and we'll arrange your changes with the airline.

Are flexible flights expensive?

Flexible flights are cheaper than non-flexible flights. With non-flexi options, you'll need to pay a hefty cancellation fee to change your departure date, and you aren't guaranteed a refund. However, with flexible flights, you can easily change your travel dates at an affordable, even free, rate.

How to find flexible flights?

Once you've selected your desired flight tickets, click on the drop-down that reads 'these are the fare rules of the ticket that you have selected'. If the fare rules state that changes are permitted, then you've selected a flexible flight.

Will I be charged for changing my flight?

If you've purchased a flexi flight and the airline ticket details state that changes can be made to the flight free of charge, you won't be charged extra.

If you purchase the Alternative Airlines Premium Service Package, you'll not be subject to the Alternative Airlines administration fee either.

If you have done either one of these things, the only time you'll have to pay money to change your flight is if the price of the new flight is higher than the price of the flight you originally booked. In this case, you'll have to pay the difference in cost between the two flights.

Which airlines let you change your flights?

Plenty of airlines do, including British Airways, Allegiant and Singapore Airlines. Take a look at our guide on the best airlines for changing flights for more information.

Which airlines offer open-ended tickets?

Some airlines offering open-ended tickets include Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways.

Bear in mind that although these airlines have flexible tickets, they may not be open-ended in the traditional sense.

What are the rules for flexible tickets?

You will have to check the fare rules of your flight to see if it includes a flexible ticket. If it does and you want to change your departure date, you may still be charged, but at a much lower rate than if you had a non-flexi ticket. If you want to change your ticket dates, please give us at least 24 hours notice so that we have time to amend your booking.
