Flexible flights

Flexible

Flexible flights, 'flexi flights' or a 'flexible fare' is an airline ticket that allows you to make changes to the date and time of your flight before departure. Flexi flights are great if — for whatever reason — you need to bring forward or delay the date you fly on.

You can book flexible flights at Alternative Airlines by using checking the fare rules of the flight that you've selected. If the rules state that changes are permitted, you've selected a flexible flight. If the rules state that changes aren't permitted, then your flight is not flexible.

Open Ended Airline Ticket

What is an Open Ended Airline Ticket?

An open-ended airline ticket is a flight ticket which has no set date for the return leg of the flight, giving you the flexibility to return whenever you'd like with no set date. With an open-ended flight, you're only required to choose a date on the outbound leg of the flight and are free to stay as long as the expiration date stated on the ticket.

At Alternative Airlines, we don't sell traditional open ended airline tickets. However, your flexible airline ticket can be used as an open ended airline ticket. Simply buy a flexible flight with a return date that is as far in the future as possible to buy and then contact Alternative Airlines when and if you want to bring forward the return date of that flight.

FAQs

What are flexible flights?

A flexible flight, or a flexi flight, is a flight in which the return date of the flight can be changed with no fees from the airline.

What does flexible flight mean?

Flexible flight means that the date in which you choose to travel on is flexible and therefore can be delayed or moved forward free of charge.

Can you book flexible flights?

Yes, you can book flexible flights with Alternative Airlines. Alternative Airlines offer flexible flights from over 650 different airlines. Flight promo codes can also be used if you book a flexi-flight, when paying with PayPal.

How do flexible flights work?

Flexible flights allow you to make changes on the dates of your flight without any charges from the airline. If you've purchased a flexi flight and want to change the date of your outbound or return flight, please contact us and we'll have it arranged with the airline.

How to find flexible flights?

To find flexible flights with Alternative Airlines, simply use the search form at the top of the page to search for flights between your selected airports and chosen dates and — once the search results have loaded — select the flight that you want to buy.

On the next page, click on the drop-down that reads 'these are the fare rules of the ticket that you have selected'. If the fare rules state that changes are permitted, then you've selected a flexible flight.

Will I be charged for changing my flight?

If you've purchased a flexi flight and it is stated per the airline ticket details that changes can be made to the flight free of charge, you'll not be charged by the airline for changing the date of your flight. If you purchase the Alternative Airlines Premium Service Package, you'll not be subject to the Alternative Airlines administration fee either.

If you have done both of these things, the only time you'll have to pay money for changing your flight is if the price of the new flight you're flying on is higher than the price of the flight you originally booked. In this case, you will have to pay the difference in price between the two flights.

Flexible Return Flights

You can easily search for flexible return flights at Alternative Airlines. Just complete a search, making sure to select 'return' instead of 'one-way' or 'multi-city'.

When flights are displayed, make sure to check the fare rules for both the outbound and return legs of your journey. This can be done by clicking on the drop-down list for fare rules, on the page after you've selected your flight.

*Tickets that can be changed for a certain cost can still be changed, but you'll have to pay the stated amount in order for the airline to authorise the change.
