About Akasa Air

Akasa Air is a proposed Indian low-cost airline startup founded by billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and a few Indian airline executives. The airline's Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) is still in the process and is hoping to have it approved before its proposed launch by the end of 2021.

As of August 2021, the destinations the airline will operate is unconfirmed but they will be operated using a fleet of Boeing737 MAX aircraft. With the airline forecasting to acquire 70 aircraft, a vast network in India and surrounding areas is expected.

Destinations

Akasa Air is likely to operate to destinations including Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The exact destinations the airline is flying to is still uncertain but they would be revealed closer to the airline launch date.

Destinations are likely to be short-medium haul destinations from India.


Baggage Allowance

Carry-On Baggage

Carry-on baggage allowance is not currently available.

All carry-on items are subjected to airport security checks, all passengers should make sure that no prohibited items are stored in the baggage including any fluid exceeding 100ml.

All carry-on items must fit in the overhead lockers and under the seat. The total weight of the carry-on baggage must not exceed the permitted limit.

Checked Baggage

Checked baggage allowance is not currently available.

All checked baggage must weigh less than 32kg and fit within the permitted dimensions to be allowed to be transported as checked baggage. Additional fees would be added to any excess weight on the checked baggage and for oversize items.

Excess baggage should be added to the booking before arriving at the airport as buying excess baggage in advance is often cheaper. This excess baggage can be added during the booking process.


Check-In Information

Check-In Online

Details for its online check-in has yet to be released.

All passengers are recommended to check-in online as it saves time from queuing at airport check-in. Boarding passes can be obtained once online check-in is completed.

Travel documents and the booking reference for the passenger should be prepared for online check-in.

Depending on the airline, there may be people who aren't entitled to online check-in, please refer to the airline for further information.

Airport Check-In

Details for airport check-in has yet to be revealed.

As a general rule, we recommend passengers to arrive two hours before the scheduled departure time. Check-in must be completed before the airport check-in deadline, otherwise, passengers may lose their tickets.

Passengers should report to the airport check-in desk as soon as they arrive at the airport. The airport check-in area location will be displayed on the departure information board at the airport.


Frequent Flyer Program

Plans of offering a frequent flyer programme isn't available yet.


Airline Alliance

Akasa Air isn't part of any airline alliances. It's unclear whether the airline has any plans to join an airline alliance.


Airline’s Fleet

Akasa Air is looking into the possible aircraft type they could deploy when the airline actually launch. The Airbus 320, A220 and the Boeing 737 aircraft are all in consideration for the launch.


Hub Airport

The airport that the airline is based at has yet to be announced. However, as a low-cost carrier (LCC), the airline may have multiple hubs across the country. Many airlines in India is based at Indira Gandhi International Airport, so Akasa Air could be using Indira Gandhi International Airport as its hub.
