About Akasa Air

Akasa Air is an Indian low-cost airline operating domestic flights across India. Akasa Air began its commercial operation on the 7th of August 2022 from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The new airline has hubs in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Kempegowda International Airport. The CEO of Akasa Air, Vinay Dube plans to have over 15 aircraft by the end of 2022 and hopes to expand its fleet size by 12-14 aircraft annually.

As Akasa Air is a low-cost airline it operates all economy configurations in its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, which handles a total of 189 passengers in -8 variant and 197 in -200 variant. To keep the flight fares low, the airline doesn't offer free meals, WIFI and in-flight entertainment. However, these services are all available to purchase during your Akasa Air flight.

Akasa Air flies to over 5 destinations within India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kochi and Mumbai. Akasa Air is expanding its route network and plans to fly to Delhi, Agartala, and Guwahati from October 2022.

Baggage Allowance

Carry-On Baggage

When flying with Akasa Air you are entitled to 1 carry-on up to 7kg / 15lbs, completely free of charge.

All carry-on items are subjected to airport security checks, all passengers should make sure that no prohibited items are stored in the baggage including any fluid exceeding 100ml.

All carry-on items must fit in the overhead lockers and under the seat. The total weight of the carry-on baggage must not exceed the permitted limit.

Checked Baggage

On domestic flights with India, you're allowed to bring a piece of standard checked baggage of up to 15kg / 33lbs. Any additional checked baggage can be pre-booked online. Please note that you can only bring 2 pieces of extra baggage at a charge of INR 900 per piece.

All checked baggage must weigh less than 32kg and fit within the permitted dimensions to be allowed to be transported as checked baggage. Additional fees would be added to any excess weight on the checked baggage and for oversize items.

Excess baggage should be added to the booking before arriving at the airport as buying excess baggage in advance is often cheaper. This excess baggage can be added during the booking process.

Check-In Information

Check-In Online

When flying with Akasa Air you can check-in online any time from 48 hours up to 1 hour before your flight departure time. You can also download the Akasa Air app and check-in through the mobile app.

All passengers are recommended to check-in online as it saves time from queuing at airport check-in. Boarding passes can be obtained once online check-in is completed.

Travel documents and the booking reference for the passenger should be prepared for online check-in.

Airport Check-In

As a general rule, we recommend passengers arrive two hours before the scheduled departure time. Check-in must be completed before the airport check-in deadline, otherwise, passengers may lose their tickets.

Passengers should report to the airport check-in desk as soon as they arrive at the airport. The airport check-in area location will be displayed on the departure information board at the airport.

Frequent Flyer Program

Plans to offer a frequent flyer programme aren't available yet.

This includes multi-cuisine, healthy meals, and plant-based foods all made by award-winning chefs across India. Akasa Air also offers a number of snacks and beverages that you can buy including Vietnamese rice rolls, pringles, and hot chocolate.

Akasa Air is continuously looking to introduce new eco-friendly activities. All Akasa Air’s packaging of perishable meals is ethically sourced from sustainably grown crops. You'll also be served wooden cutlery that is 100% biodegradable.


WIFI is available to purchase during your flight! You can now connect to the WIFI for only $8. Most Akasa Air flights offer WIFI on board however, a selection of 737-9 MAX aircraft and all Q400 aircraft, which operate shorter flights, are not fit with internet connection.

In-Flight Entertainment

Akasa Air offers a wide range of in-flight entertainment. On most Akasa Air flights you can choose from over 800 free movies and TV shows on your own device. To access the in-flight entertainment library, simply connect to the onboard WIFI during your flight.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) is an international airport serving the region of Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropliation. In 2018, the airport handled over 49 million passengers. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is known to be the 2nd busiest airport in the country measured by international passenger traffic. Furthermore, the airport was voted as the 14th busiest airport in Asia and the 41st busiest airport in the world. The airport has 2 runways. The first one has a length of 2,990m and the 2nd one is 3,660m.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has 2 terminals. Terminal 1 also known as Santacruz Airport is used for domestic flights that are operated by low-cost carriers. From this terminal you can find over 10 passenger boarding piers. Terminal 2 also referred to as T2 is a new X-shaped terminal that has a total floor area of 450,000 square metres. This terminal operates domestic flights as well as international flights. T2 has new ttaxiways and apron areas made for aircraft parking - this was designed to handle over 40 million passengers a year.
