Phongsavanh Airlines changes name to Lao Central airlines
Lao Central Airlines, the first independent airline in Laos, is the new name for the carrier previously branded as Phongsavanh Airlines.
Lao Central took delivery of its first Boeing 737-400 in October 2011 and already has a second. Both are based at Vientianne's Wattay International Airport alongside the airline's two 19 seater turbo props. The Boeing Jets will be used on international routes with the launch service operating from Vientianne to Bangkok probably in January 2012.
Plans beyond flights to Bangkok as the first destination include operations to Vietnam, Cambodia, China and SIngapore plus increasing the fleet to 4 Boeing 737-400's.
Lao Central will compete directly with national carrier, Lao Airlines which operates flights to Luang Prabang, Kunming, Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.Alternative Airlines is a specialist in arranging flights to South East Asia.
