Hamad International Airport is Qatar's only international airport. It is located just outside of the capital Doha, and was built to replace the original Doha International Airport, making it known as the New Doha International Airport. The airport was originally intending to open for operations in 2009, but did not open until 5 years later in April 2014.
The planning to replace the Doha International Airport took part in 2003 and involved the designing to increase the capacity and potential traffic volume from the previous airport. Construction began in 2005, but had its initial opening date of 2009 moved back to 2014.
The airport is a hub for Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways Cargo and Qatar Executive. The airport's annual capacity is 50 million passengers, and 2017 saw the airport handle 35,270,410 passenger movements.
The airport is located southeast of Qatar's capital, Doha, close to the location of the previous airport. It was built on reclaimed land, and measures over 22 square km. Its location within Doha can be seen on the interactive map below:

There is currently only one terminal at this airport, which has 5 concourses (A-E). There is potential to extend concourses D and E, with a possible additional concourse F.
There have been plans to build a second terminal at DOH, if the current terminal reaches maximum passenger capacity.

You can access the airport from the city of Doha by going east out the city onto the Ras Abu Abboudi Expy, and follow signs to the airport parking.
There are 5 buses that serve the airport, which all require a Karwa Smartcard 24 (available from the airport information desk).
Passengers can rent cars from the airport with different agencies. These are found in the Ground Transportation Centre, which is across the street from the Arrivals Hall.
