About Hamad International Airport
Hamad International Airport is Qatar's only international airport. The airport was originally intending to open for operations in 2009, but did not open until 5 years later in April 2014.
The planning to replace the Doha International Airport took part in 2003 and involved the designing to increase the capacity and potential traffic volume from the previous airport. Construction began in 2005, but had its initial opening date of 2009 moved back to 2014.
The airport is a hub for Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways Cargo and Qatar Executive. The airport's annual capacity is 50 million passengers, and 2017 saw the airport handle 35,270,410 passenger movements.
