Tagia will be a scheduled carrier, operating regional flights within the Far East region of Russia – the easternmost region of Russia, which has land borders with Mongolia, China and North Korea. The airline will be based at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS).
Taiga has been set up by reorganizing several existing Russian airlines, as well as consolidating all services that were previously operated by seperate airlines, under one new company. All carriers that operate in the Russian Far East, that belong to ‘The Union of Regional Carriers’ (an airline union for the carriers in the region) will now fly under a single brand – Taiga.
Taiga has stated that the company hopes to serve over 500 destinations, all of which are deemed socially important. Given the immense geographical dimensions of the country, it is likely that the new airline will provide vital new connections within a region which is otherwise underserved. With immensely adverse weather and ground conditions across the region, Taiga will provide a new and easier way to connect remote settlements.
Taiga has announced that it will connect over 500 destinations in the Far East of Russia, although more details have yet to be announced.
The airline is still in the start-up stage, and has yet to announce what the baggage allowance will be for passengers.
The airline hasn't yet published recommended arrival times for passengers departing on flights, or whether online check-in options will be available.
The new airline company is going to be created by renaming an existing helicopter company, Aviashelf. It is likely that the fleets of other regional carriers will also be transitioned to the company later.
The airline will be based at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS). Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, also called Khomutovo, is an airport in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, on the Russian island of Sakhalin. Airlines that fly to/from UUS to/from other domestic destinations within Russia include: Aeroflot, Pegas Fly, Aeroflot, Aurora, and Yakutia Airlines.
