Buy CommutAir flights with Alternative Airlines

CommutAir was founded in 1989, it is owned by Champlain Enterprises and United Airlines. The airline operates flights on behalf of United Express, who is a subsidiary airline of United Airlines. It flies with the United livery on their routes and it solely serves United Express.

Over 1000 weekly flights are served in over 50 destinations with the airline's efficient regional jets - ERJ-145. Originally, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport was their hub until United Airlines decided to withdraw from its Cleveland hub. Currently, the airline is based at Newark Liberty International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

Baggage Policy

CommutAir has a different baggage policy for carry-on and checked baggage policy.

Carry-on Baggage

The ERJ-145 aircraft has smaller cabin space, so some larger carry-on items may not fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat. Therefore, passengers are advised to bring smaller carry-on bags or personal items onboard.

The airline may offer to check passenger's carry-on items for free, depending on availability. Please check with the airline on check-in.

Prohibited items must not be transported on carry-on baggage and they'd be confiscated by airport security at the security check.

Checked Baggage

There is no free baggage allowance on United Express flights and baggage must not weigh over 50lbs (23kg).

Excess baggage can be added to the booking when booking with Alternative Airlines, or contact our customer service team for more information. The airline has the right to accept any checked baggage that is not compliant with the airline policy.

Cabin Classes

There is on one seating class available: Standard (Economy). There are up to 30 seats on the aircraft. All seats have padded headrests, with ample storage in the overhead bins above the seats. The flights are only short, as the airline only operates regional flights, so facilities and services are limited onboard the flight.

Check-In

As CommutAir is solely an operator for United Express flights, check-in will be done by the United Express personnel too.

Online Check-in

Online check-in is available via the United official page.

Check-in is open 24 hours before the flight. Passengers should prepare the travel document details and booking reference for online check-in. The boarding pass will be available once check-in is completed.

Passengers are advised to check-in online as it'd save time checking in at the airport. Any passengers who don't check-in online must check-in at the airport.

Airport Check-in

Airport check-in closes between 30 to 45 minutes depending on the departing airport and whether passengers have luggage to check-in.

Check-in is available via the self-service kiosk or the check-in counters at the airport.

All passengers must check-in before the check-in deadline or the airline reserves the right to deny the passenger to board the aircraft. At Alternative Airlines, we recommend passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before the check-in deadline. They should also report to the airline check-in counters when they arrive at the airport.

Airline Alliance

CommutAir isn't part of any airline alliance. However, United Express / United Airlines passengers travelling on CommutAir operated flights will be able to earn United Airlines frequent flyer member points and enjoy Star Alliance member benefits.

Frequent Flyer Program

CommutAir doesn't offer a frequent flyer programme but passengers who bought their tickets at United Airlines can still earn the United MileagePlus points and redeem their benefits there.
