About Citywing

Citywing was a virtual airline based in the Isle of Man that operated flights from 2012 to 2019. Citywing primarily offered scheduled flights within the British Isles with a focus on connecting the Isle of Man with various destinations in the UK and Ireland. Since Citywing was a virtual airline, it leased aircraft and crew from other operators but didn't own any aircraft themselves. This allowed them to be flexible and adapt their fleet and routes based on demand.

Citywing offered convenient connections to Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Belfast, Glasgow, Dublin and Cork. It operated its flights with the Let L-410 Turbolet aircraft, known for its short-field performance and suitability for regional routes.

Unfortunately, Citywing faced many challenges including competition from major carriers and the loss of its operating licence for one of its key partners, Van Air Europe. Citywing temporarily partnered with Sprint Air but ultimately couldn't secure a sustainable partnership to continue operations. As a result of this, Citywing announced its closure in 2017.

Hub Airport

Isle of Man Airport

Isle of Man Airport, also known as Ronaldsway Airport, is the main civilian airport on the Isle of Man. It plays a crucial role in connecting the island to the world, acting as one of the two primary gateways alongside the Isle of Man Sea Terminal.

The airport serves numerous airlines that offer scheduled flights to the UK, Ireland and beyond. Some popular destinations include Manchester, Liverpool, London and Belfast, among others. The airport caters to major carriers such as British Airways, as well as smaller regional airlines like Loganair and EasyJet.

Fleet

Citywing was a virtual airline that didn't have its aircraft operating licence - it leased chartered aircraft from Van Air Europe for all of its services. The aircraft it leased from Van Air Europe were four Let L-410s.
