Malawi Do's and Don'ts
- Do follow safari regulations — Listen to what your guide tells you, and don't go to areas that are out of bounds. This is to protect both your and the animals' safety.
- Do get vaccinated — The recommended vaccinations for Malawi are Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Polio. You may also want to get vaccinated against Hepatitis B, Rabies, Cholera, and Meningococcal Meningitis.
- Be careful on the roads — Malawi has a higher percentage of road-related accidents than many other countries. At night, the roads aren't lit, and animals and potholes can pose a risk. Due to safety and crowding concerns, public transport isn't recommended. Instead, walk or use a bike. If you need a car it's best to rent one.
- Don't drink tap water — Tap water isn't safe to drink in Malawi and could get you sick. Instead, drink bottled water or bring a water filter.
- Don't engage in PDA — Public displays of affection aren't acceptable in Malawi, particularly in rural areas. Homosexuality is illegal, so if you're visiting the country with your same-sex partner, ensure discretion for your safety, as the punishment for men is imprisonment of up to 14 years.
Wherever you're looking to go next, we'll get you there on your terms

It's recommended that even if there haven't been any reports, you visit your GP once you return to your home country. This is to ensure you haven't picked up any parasites that could lead to schistosomiasis.
Otherwise known as bilharzia, the disease often goes away on its own but can lead to serious long-term problems if untreated, so it's best to get tested just in case.
