Blue Bird Airways is a Greek airline that offers regular and seasonal scheduled passenger flights. The airline is based at Heraklion International Airport (HER) and offers flights to several Greek Islands, as well as to other destinations within Europe, with a strong focus on providing scheduled and charter flights from Tel Aviv (TLV).

The airline launched in 2008 and flew its first flight from Heraklion the same year. The airline mostly flies to destinations on a seasonal basis, however, flights from Tel Aviv operate year-round.

Baggage Policy

Blue Bird Airways has a different baggage policy for carry-on and checked baggage policy.

Carry-on Baggage

Passengers are allowed one piece of carry-on baggage per person, free of charge. This must be no heavier than 5 kg in weight and must fit within the measurements of 23 cm x 40 cm x 51 cm (9" x 15.7" x 20.7").

Checked Baggage

Passengers aren't entitled to any free checked baggage. If passengers would like to add checked baggage, they can purchase it at an additional cost. No one piece of baggage can weigh more than 32 kg or be larger than the dimensions of 158 cm overall (length x width x height).

Blue Bird currently offers one class fare on its flights, Economy Class. The Economy Class cabin offers high capacity, comfortable seating at low-cost prices.

The airline is dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service; the staff will greet passengers on board and escort them to their seat. Onboard snacks and beverages are available, along with duty-free shopping.

Seats are set out in a 3 x 3 formation. Each seat gives enough seat pitch and width to keep passengers comfortable throughout their flight.

Hub Airport

Heraklion International Airport

Heraklion International Airport is the main airport in Crete, Greece and is the hub airport for Blue Bird Airways. The airport is located just east of the centre of Heraklion and is the second busiest airport out of Greece and the Greek Islands.

The airport has one terminal building and two runways. It serves over 8 million passengers per year, with the majority of passenger traffic coming from seasonal flights in the European summer months.

Heraklion Airport is also the hub airport for Sky Express, while Aegean Airlines and Ellinair frequently fly there and use the airport as a strong focus within their respective route networks.

Blue Bird Airways fleet consists entirely of the Boeing aircraft. The airline has a small fleet, which is made up of short-haul to medium-haul 737 planes.
