Avoid tourist hotspots πΊοΈ
If you want to get away but haven't settled on a destination, choose somewhere less common to fly to. Last-minute flights to popular destinations tend to be very expensive, as airlines know there will always be people willing to pay steep fees.
However, if you travel somewhere more remote, then there's a chance your tickets will actually be cheaper than if you booked them in advance. If an airline flies without all its seats being booked, it loses money, so often, airlines will lower the prices of less popular flights to encourage more people to book!
Flexible Dates ποΈ
Different days in the same week will have different flight prices. If you're flexible with your travel dates, select a time when flights are cheaper. Alternative Airlines' fare finder tool lets you see how expensive it is to fly each day. Flights in red are the most pricey and green the cheapest.
Night Flights π
Night flights tend to be less booked than day flights. This means they're usually cheaper than a daytime flight. Read our guide on Southwest red-eye flights to learn more about travelling during the night hours.
