Cheap Domestic Flights in Iceland

South Coast of Iceland

What are domestic flights?

A domestic flight in Iceland is any flight where the departure and arrival airport are both within Icelandic borders. For example, an Icelandic domestic flight would be a flight that departs from Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV) and arrives at Akureyri Airport (AEY). Although it's a tiny country, there are still a number of domestic flights within Iceland from regional airlines.

Despite being the national carrier of Iceland, Icelandair doesn't offer flights within the country and focuses solely on international flights.

Why book domestic flights in Iceland?

Although it's a small country, flying is still one of the most popular ways of travelling point to point in Iceland. Travelling by plane is by far the quickest way to travel. For example, the 5+ hour drive from Reykjavík to Akureyri takes just 45 minutes on a flight.

At times, flying might be the only option to travel around Iceland. During the winter, extreme weather conditions can cause driving to be unsafe and it's not unusual for many of the roads in the country to close.
