Airline Payment Plans

Book flights now, pay over time with 600+ airlines

Spread the cost and fly sooner

Flight prices keep climbing, but your travel plans don't have to wait. The average domestic flight in the US now costs over $350, and international trips can easily hit $1,000 or more. That's a lot to pay all at once!

Airline payment plans let you book the trip you want today and spread the cost over time. Whether you're planning a family vacation, flying home for the holidays, or booking a last-minute business trip, payment plans make air travel accessible without the financial stress.

At Alternative Airlines, we've partnered with over 40 payment providers to give you more flexibility than anyone else. From Buy Now Pay Later plans with Affirm and Klarna, to deposit travel with Slice Pay, you'll find a solution that fits your budget across 600+ airlines worldwide.

What are airline payment plans?

Airline payment plans are flexible payment options that let you book flights now and pay over time instead of all at once. Think of it as breaking down a big purchase into smaller, manageable chunks.

Airline payment plans we offer ✨

  • Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL): Book your flight immediately and split the cost into instalments, usually over a few weeks or months. You get your ticket right away and start travelling while you're still paying.
  • Deposit-based plans: Secure your flight with a small upfront payment (often as little as 10%), then pay off the rest before you travel. Perfect for planning ahead and locking in today's prices.
  • Card-linked instalments: Use your existing credit card to split the cost over 3, 4 or 6 months. No new accounts, no credit checks and you still earn your card rewards.

Why use an airline payment plan?

Make travel affordable and avoid debt 🤑

A $1,200 flight might feel out of reach. But $100 a month? That's doable. Payment plans turn big ticket prices into budget-friendly instalments, and many offer interest-free options so you can avoid racking up credit card interest while still getting the trip you need.

Lock in prices and plan ahead 🔒

Flight costs can jump overnight. With a deposit plan, you can secure today's price and pay over time, even if fares increase later. Perfect for planning family vacations, group trips, or any travel that needs advance booking.

Get flexibility when you need it most ✨

Whether you're booking a last-minute flight for a family emergency, organising travel for multiple people, or just need to spread the cost over a few weeks, payment plans give you the flexibility to fly now and pay at your own pace.

Types of airline payment plans

Not all payment plans work the same way. Some give you instant tickets, others let you lock in prices months ahead, and some work directly with the credit card in your wallet. Here's how each option works and which might be right for you.

Deposit-based plans

Deposit plans let you secure your flight with a small down payment, then pay off the balance before you fly. This works brilliantly for advance planning and budget management.

Slice Pay is our go-to provider for deposit travel. With Slice Pay, you can:

  • Book flights from over 600 airlines
  • Start with just a 10% deposit
  • Pay weekly instalments at your own pace
  • Travel only once your plan is complete
  • Enjoy zero interest and no fees for missed payments

Card-linked instalments

Card-linked instalments let you use your existing credit card to split flight costs over time without opening new accounts or going through credit checks.

Splitit is our card-linked instalment provider. With Splitit, you can:

  • Split the cost over 3, 4 or 6 months using your existing credit card
  • Avoid new applications or separate BNPL accounts
  • Keep earning your card rewards, air miles and cashback
  • Benefit from your credit card's built-in consumer protections
  • Pay no additional interest beyond your card's standard rate
  • Improve your credit score by making on-time payments

The full amount is authorised on your card upfront (not charged, just held), then you're billed in monthly instalments. Perfect if you prefer keeping all your payments in one place and maximising your existing card benefits.

How to apply for an airline payment plan

Getting approved for a payment plan is quick and painless. Most applications take just minutes, and you'll know if you're approved right away.

The application process ✨

  1. Search and select your flight: Find your perfect flight on Alternative Airlines from over 600 airlines.
  2. Choose your payment plan at checkout: Browse through 40+ payment options and pick the one that fits your budget, whether that's BNPL, Slice Pay or Splitit.
  3. Complete a quick application: Enter your basic details. Most providers make decisions in seconds, not days. For Splitit, the full amount is authorised on your card (not charged) to confirm you have available credit.
  4. Get instant approval: You'll know right away if you're approved. No waiting around.
  5. Make your first payment and book: Pay your deposit or first instalment, and you're done. Your flight is booked.

What you'll need 💡

The requirements are simple. For most BNPL providers:

  • Be 18 or older
  • Valid debit or credit card
  • Email address and phone number
  • Billing address in an eligible country

The whole process takes minutes, not hours. You can go from searching flights to having a confirmed booking faster than you'd expect.

Credit checks and eligibility 💡

Here's the good news - most payment plans don't involve hard credit checks that affect your credit score.

  • BNPL providers like Affirm, Afterpay and Klarna typically run soft credit checks for short-term plans (Pay in 4 options). These don't impact your credit score. Longer-term monthly plans may require a hard credit check, but approval is still usually instant.
  • Slice Pay doesn't run any credit checks at all. Whether your credit is excellent or you're still building it, you can book flights and pay over time. This makes Slice Pay one of the most accessible options for travellers who might not qualify elsewhere.
  • Splitit doesn't require credit checks either. Since you're using your existing credit card, the authorisation uses your available credit limit. As long as you have enough available credit for the full purchase amount, you're good to go.

Approval decisions ☑️

Most providers give you an instant decision. You'll see approval or decline within seconds of submitting your application.

If you're not approved by one provider, don't worry. You have many other options to try. Each provider has different criteria, so one decline doesn't mean you're out of options. Simply select another payment method at checkout and try again.

FAQs

What is an airline payment plan?

An airline payment plan lets you book your flight now and spread the cost over time instead of paying everything upfront. Depending on the option you choose, you can pay in weekly or monthly instalments, with or without interest.

Can I travel before finishing my payments?

Yes, if you use a Buy Now Pay Later option like Klarna or Affirm, or a card instalment plan like Splitit, you can fly before completing your payments.

With Slice Pay, your ticket is issued after your deposit is paid, but you must finish all payments at least 7 days before departure to travel.

How do I choose a payment plan when booking?

Simply search for your flight at the top of this page, head to checkout, and select your preferred payment plan, like Klarna, Afterpay, Slice Pay or Splitit. You'll see your instalment breakdown before confirming.

Do I need to pass a credit check to use a payment plan?

Not always.

  • Slice Pay and Splitit require no credit checks.
  • BNPL providers like Klarna and Affirm may run soft checks that don’t affect your credit score.
  • Some long-term financing options may involve a hard check, but you’ll be informed upfront.
How much do I need to pay upfront?

It depends on the provider:

  • BNPL: Usually the first instalment (often 25%) at checkout.
  • Slice Pay: From 10% upfront, or 20% for US customers.
  • Splitit: No payment upfront, but the full amount is pre-authorised on your credit card.
What happens if I miss a payment?

Each provider has different policies:

  • BNPL plans may charge late fees.
  • Slice Pay has no late fees, but you must complete payments before you fly.
  • Splitit charges your credit card automatically, so your usual card terms apply.
When will I receive my flight ticket?
  • BNPL and Splitit: Tickets are issued immediately.
  • Slice Pay: Your ticket is issued after your deposit is paid, but you can only travel once your plan is fully paid, at least 7 days before your flight.
Can I pay off my plan early?

Yes. Most providers, including Slice Pay, Splitit and major BNPL options, allow early repayment with no penalties.

What do I need to qualify for a payment plan?

You’ll need to be at least 18, have a valid debit or credit card, and live in a country supported by the payment provider. For Splitit, you’ll also need a credit card with enough available limit to cover the full cost of your booking.

What if I’m not approved by one provider?

No worries - we offer over 40 ways to pay. If one provider doesn’t work out, just choose another at checkout. There’s almost always a flexible option available that suits your budget.
