What is a US Passport Card?
The US passport card is a national identity card and travel document that can be issued by the United States Federal Government, it's an optional form of identification.

Passport cards are the size and shape of a credit card and permit travel for US nationals between domestic destinations. It can't be used for international travel.

What are Passport Cards good for?
In the US, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) accept the use of a passport card as a form of ID for domestic flights within the United States. Passport cards are good for those who travel frequently to Canada and Mexico as it's an accepted form of ID, however, if you travel internationally then a regular passport book will suffice. Passport cards are a budget-friendly option.

How much does a US Passport Card cost?

First-time applicants who are aged 16 or over can purchase a passport card for $65 USD. Any applicant that's aged below 16 will have to pay $50 USD for their first passport card. To get your passport card renewed, it will likely cost you $30 USD.

Why doesn't my US passport card allow me to travel internationally?

The US passport card was designed for both the northern and southern US border communities who were seeking to travel regularly across the borders, and not internationally. A regular paper passport is required to travel internationally.

How long is my passport card valid?

From the date of issue, for any US citizen that's aged 16 or over, the passport card is valid for 10 years. If you're aged below 16, your passport card is only valid for 5 years before it's in need of renewal.
