What are long-haul low-cost airlines?

Long-haul low-cost (LHLC) airlines are carriers that operate long-haul routes but have the characteristics of a low-cost carrier. These airlines often have a lower cost base than full-service carriers and may offer the cheapest tickets.

LHLC airlines usually offer a reduced service onboard but they usually operate with a highly efficient and modern aircraft fleet. There are examples of LHLC operating in the past including Oasis Hong Kong Airlines and Zoom Airlines. In the current climate, LHLC carriers often deploy Boeing 787s and A330neos in their fleet as they give the operators a better fuel economy.

Low-Cost Long-Haul Flights FAQs

Why are low-cost airlines so cheap?

Low-cost carriers (LCC) save costs by offering less free services onboard and optimising their use of aircraft. For example, they have a consolidated/similar fleet type to minimise maintenance cost and you usually have to purchase your meal onboard if you wish to have one.
