This depends on where you're travelling from and the whereabouts in the Dominican Republic you're headed to.

Flying from New York JFK to any destination in the Dominican Republic is direct, but only Puerto Plata from Newark is not a direct service. If travelling from New York LaGuardia then you will be required to transfer in another city before connecting on to your final destination, so it's recommended to depart from JFK or Newark.

Boston, San Juan and Fort Lauderdale all have 2 direct flights with the airline, but please check which cities they service when booking your itinerary. Orlando also has a direct route to the country but only services Santo Domingo 1 time a day, so bear that in mind!
