The Dram (AMD) is the monetary unit of Armenia and the neighboring unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. In 1991 a national referendum proclaimed Armenia as a republic independent from the Soviet Union, and in 1993 The Central Bank of Armenia was given the exclusive right of issuing the national currency. The unique Armenian Dram symbol (֏) was introduced in 1995. Denominations inclue 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 for coins, and 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 for banknotes.
