Siem Reap to replace Bangkok Airways on Tourist route

Aviation officials in Cambodia’s government has announced that Bangkok Airways will not be allowed an extension on its contract to fly the domestic tourist route Phnom Penh to Siem Reap in order to make way for the Cambodian carrier Siem Reap Airlines.
Siem Reap Airlines, the Phnom Penh-based carrier, was grounded for safety reasons at the end of 2008, but having now cleared all relevant safety checks will once again be operating domestic and international services from the Cambodian capital. Bangkok Airways has been operating the Phnom Penh–Siem Reap service under a contract by the Cambodian government since 2008. “Now that we have our own domestic airline, Bangkok Airways will not be allowed to continue flights when the agreement finishes on October 25,” confirmed an official. Though it still is yet to confirm a firm launch date, the Cambodian State Secretariat of Civil Aviation has commented that it understands that Siem Reap Airlines will also in the future operate international routes to Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong along with domestic services
