The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the United States. Every year, it features new works from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival was first established in 1978 as the Utah/US Film Festival but was later taken over by the Sundance Institute, founded by actor and director Robert Redford in 1981.
Recent editions of the festival have featured more than 80 feature films and several episodic projects across a wide range of genres, from drama and comedy to documentary and experimental film.
