CemAir is a privately owned scheduled and non-scheduled domestic and international aviation company that is based at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Destinations served domestically within South Africa include Bloemfontein, Cape Towm, George, Margate, Plettenberg Bay and Sishen.
CemAir operates services to popular tourist destinations and important business towns and leases aircraft to other airlines across Africa and the Middle East. Based in Johannesburg, CemAir was formed in 2005 with the purpose of operating turboprop commuter aircraft. The initial fleet consisted of 1 Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft and 3 Beechcraft 1900C aircraft.
CemAir has since evolved into a specialised aircraft leasing company offering turboprop and jet aircraft to a variety of operators throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Indian Ocean islands as well as a significant operator of scheduled regional services within South Africa. CemAir has one primary hub in Johannesburg at OR Tambo International Airport, in addition they have 4 additional secondary hubs located in Gaborone, Juba, Lusaka and Bamako. The reason behind the secondary hubs is due to a large portion of the fleet being deployed outside of South Africa. The aircraft periodically rotate back to base for selected inspections.

On CemAir flights you'll be entitled to a carry-on bag of no more than 7kg. Carry-on baggage must not exceed the maximum size of 36 x 23 x 56cm (including handles, pockets and wheels). In addition to the carry-on baggage allowance, you may also carry onboard small personal items such as a handbag, umbrella, or laptop.
Checked Baggage limitations and conditions vary by route and will be outlined during the booking process and on the tickets. When excess or additional baggage is purchased, no single bag weighing over 32kg will be accepted. passengers who are connecting to, or from, an international flight will be entitled to an additional 10kg of free checked baggage.
CemAir passengers can fly in Economy class.
There are a limited number of seats onboard the aircraft, and onboard facilities are limited.
The airline operates a fleet of small aircraft, with a limited number of passengers. The airline is dedicated to providing low-cost high-value travel. All passengers are entitled to one piece of carry-on luggage, but checked baggage limitations and conditions vary by route.
CemAir passengers can check in online and at the airport.
Online check-in for CemAir flights is available 24 hours before your flight departure time. At the time of online check-in, you can pre-select your seat as well as print your boarding pass.
The airline's check-in counters open 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure and close 45 minutes prior to departure for Johannesburg and Cape Town Airport. For flights departing to Plettenberg Bay and Margate, check-in counters close 30 minutes prior to departure. For international flights, airport check in opens 3 hours before the flight departure time and closes 1 hour before departure.
CemAir's frequent flyer programme is called 'SKYREWARDS'.
CemAir's frequent flyer program is called SKYREWARDS. If you're a member of SKYREWARDS then you can collect mileage points when flying with CemAir and spend them on free CemAir flight tickets. What's more? It's completely free to sign up for SKYREWARDS. The number of points you receive will depend on the distance flown and the fare type that was purchased when booking CemAir flight tickets. SKYREWARDS will automatically calculate how many points you earned so don't worry about calculating anything!
The airline is not currently part of an airline alliance program.
CemAir offers a number of special services for its passengers.
Pregnant women up to 28 weeks of pregnancy are able to fly on CemAir flights without a doctor’s certificate. Between the 28th and the 36th week of pregnancy, pregnant women are able to fly on CemAir flights as long as you present a doctor's certificate which states that the passenger is fit to fly and the expected date of birth. Under no circumstances are pregnant women from the 36th week of pregnancy are able to fly with CemAir.
CemAir allows you to bring a small cat or dog in a container accompanied by the owner onboard. Other animals and large cats or dogs are not permitted in the cabin instead, they must be transported in the hold of the aircraft. Please note that pets must be vaccinated for Rabies and carry the correct documentation. In order to keep your pet safe during the transportation process your pet must be carried in a hard shell, lockable container.
If you or a member of your booking require a wheelchair getting to/from your flight, Contact Us as soon as possible. We'll inform the airline that you will need a wheelchair for your airport journey. Alternatively, you can also request a wheelchair at the airport.
