Economy Rent a Car is a Costa Rican rental brand founded in 1987 by Alex and Geysa Muniz. Economy had humble beginnings, with its focus being on offering 4x4 rentals to Costa Rican surfers looking to see the country's beaches.
This all changed in 2009 when Economy expanded internationally through an affiliate network of independent brands across the world.
Today, Economy Rent a Car has locations in 100+ countries across the world, whether that be an Economy-branded office or an affiliated, independent brand that is part of the Economy Rent a Car family.
As a budget-friendly car rental brand, Economy Rent-a-Car is perfect for:
A physical and valid driver's license in your own name
The minimum age to rent is 21 years old
Have a secondary photo ID (e.g. a passport)
Have a valid credit card in your name
With a fleet of cars ranging from small and midsize cars to SUVs and luxury vehicles, Economy has the rental you need for less. So whether you're travelling for work or a family holiday, Economy Rent a Car's fleet offers an affordable alternative to other brands no matter your rental needs.
With 25+ locations in the U.S, Economy is more than a big-city airport rental brand. Rent a car from major leisure hotspots across the U.S, including destinations not always served by big-name providers. Whether it's Honolulu, Key West or Miami, Economy has an affordable car for your next getaway.
Economy's budget fees don't stop at their standard rental fares. The under-25 young renters surcharge starts at $10 a day, which is cheaper than other rental brands on the market. Economy gives younger drivers more opportunities to drive for less. Young driver surcharges vary by location.
Make your Economy Rent-a-Car even more affordable when you pay for your rental cost over time at Alternative Airlines. Pay in weekly or monthly installments through globally trusted providers like Affirm, Afterpay, and Klarna.

No, Economy Rent a Car is not the same as EconomyCarRentals.com or EconomyBookings.com. Despite the similar names, these are three completely separate businesses.
Economy Rent a Car is a physical car rental brand with its own fleet, vehicles, pickup counters and network.
On the other hand, EconomyCarRentals.com and EconomyBookings.com are car rental brokers, meaning they connect users with other car rental brands rather than operating a fleet themselves, much like Alternative Airlines.
If you are looking for Economy Rent a Car, you are in the right place!

If you are running a little late don't worry! Economy Rent a Car gives its customers a grace period of 60mins from the drop off time on your rental voucher.

Late return and after-hours policies can vary by location; please check your rental agreement before purchase.
Generally, Economy Rent a Car doesn't offer one-way car rentals at any of its U.S locations. There may be a couple that do offer one-way rentals; however, they are limited to drop-offs between a central airport and another location.
For example, the Economy Rent a Car branch/affiliate partner in Key West offers one-way rentals between the Florida Keys and Economy offices at Southeast Florida airports for a one-way drop fee.
