Airlines with the most generous baggage allowance

There are numerous reasons why someone might need a lot of baggage for their next flight. The climate you're travelling to, the reason you're flying, the amount of time you'll be away for, you might just have a particularly large wardrobe. Whatever the reason, you're going to want to feel like you've packed all the items you need without making sacrifices due to limited space.

In this blog, we'll outline the airlines that let you bring the most baggage possible and the ones that let you bring a sufficient amount while still being conscious of your budget.

Baggage policies are subject to change. Make sure to read the terms and conditions of your fare ticket.

Which airlines let you bring the largest amount of baggage?

  • Qatar
  • Etihad
  • Emirates

Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance

Depending on your route, Qatar's economy ticketing will allow you to bring up to 20-25kg of checked baggage, which falls within the standard range for most airlines. It's Qatar's Business and First Class tickets, however, where you'll notice a considerable increase in the baggage maximum that you can bring.

Depending on your route, you may be entitled to 40kg if you travel with Qatar's Business Class. While First Class flyers will enjoy an impressive 50kg weight limit.

Qatar's checked-bag height, width and depth dimensions depend on your route, not your class. If you're flying to or from Africa or the Americas, your bag can be up to 158cm. If you're flying to or from anywhere else, the dimensions can be up to 300cm.

For Qatar's carry-on baggage, if you're flying Economy, you can bring one bag of up to 7kg, whilst Business and First Class fliers can bring two bags combined to 15kg.

Carry-on can be up to 50 x 37 x 25 cm, length x width x depth.

With Qatar Airways, customers get a generous checked and carry-on luggage amount, giving you room to pack everything you need.

Qatar Airways flies to destinations in the Middle East, Asia, the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and Africa. Some of its most popular locations are London, Bangkok, and Jeddah. ✈️

Etihad Baggage Allowance

While Etihad's Economy Class typically allows for the standard maximum of 23kg checked baggage, its more expensive cabins will enable you to carry considerably more than what most airlines allow.

Depending on your route of travel, if you purchase an Etihad Premium Economy seat, you may be eligible to bring a bag weighing up to 30kg. Business Class takes it a step further with a maximum of 40kg, and if you want to fly with as much as possible, then by flying in Etihad's luxury First Class, you'll be able to bring an astounding 50kg!

No individual bag can weigh more than 32kg. If you're eligible to bring more than this, the items must be split between multiple bags.

If you're flying to America or Canada, your bag can be up to 70 x 50 x 38 cm. For any other route, your bag can be up to 90 x 72 x 42 cm.

For carry-on items, Etihad Economy customers can bring one bag totalling 7kg, whilst Business and First Class passengers may bring two bags with a combined weight of 12kg. Carry-on bags cannot exceed 56 x 36 x 23cm.

Etihad Airways provides flights to the Middle East, Asia, Africa, North America, Europe and Oceania. Some of the locations it most frequently travels to include Paris, Milan and Rome✈️

Emirates Baggage Allowance

With Emirates Economy, you can bring the usual 23kg of checked items.

For Business and First Class travellers, however, you're allowed a total of 32kg, which is still a lot more than what most airlines offer.

The total dimensions for each Emirates bag cannot exceed 300 cm. Anything larger than this will not be accepted.

An Emirates regular Economy ticket will let you bring a carry-on bag of up to 7kg, while with Premium Economy, you can bring up to 10kg. Your bags cannot exceed 55 x 38 x 22 cm.

Business and First-class travellers are permitted to bring a carry-on bag plus a briefcase or garment bag, and both bags can weigh up to 7kg. While the carry-on bag must fit the dimensions mentioned above, the briefcase/garment has to be a little smaller, with dimensions of 45 x 35 x 20 cm.

Even though Emirates offers slightly less than Qatar and Etihad, it still allows for a roomy amount of baggage, letting you bring all the essentials and more for your next flight.

Emirates flies to destinations in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Oceania. Some of its top locations include Dubai, Sydney and New Delhi✈️

Why do airline baggage allowances differ between airlines?

The main reason there's a difference in the maximum baggage you can bring per airline is the expense. The more baggage an airline allows, the higher the amount of fuel it burns, leading to an increase in cost. That's why you'll find that some of the more expensive airlines, like Qatar and Emirates, allow you to bring more, as your tickets cover the additional fuel cost. Similarly that's why budget airlines like Ryanair, tend to offer smaller amounts.
