East Africa’s Fastest Growing Carrier Inducts Next Generation Bombardier® CRJ 200 Aircraft to Serve its Johannesburg, Entebbe and Nairobi routes
Kigali, 05 January 2010: RwandAir, East Africa’s fastest growing airline today places online two newly acquired Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft offering passengers’ unparalleled services on its routes to Nairobi, Entebbe and Johannessburg.

The two 50 seater Regional Jets which were delivered late last month are expected to bring to a close ‘wet-lease-arrangements the national carrier has had in the past while ushering in a new era of developing a world class airline which would soon aim to take on a leading position with travelers in not just in Africa, but also the world.
The two new CRJ 200 aircrafts have been painted in a brand new pleasing livery aimed to position Rwanda’s cultural vibrance and the uniqueness that represents the land and its people.
The two new CRJ 200’s which bear Rwanda “9XR” tailnumbers have been contracted to leading maintenance, repair and overhaul company (“MRO”) Lufthansa Technik who come with several years of experience in aircraft maintenance and maintaining high flight safety and airworthniess standards. With a view to provide travelers with the best possible interline linkages to Europe, the Middle East and Asia,
RwandAir has amended its winter schedule to factor in convenient connection times from regional hubs at Entebbe, Nairobi. Commencing from January 05, 2009 WB flights bound for Nairobi will depart from Kigali at at 1100HRS (local time) on Mondays and Wednesdays. Flights to the Kenyan capital on the remaining days of the week will depart at 1000HRS (local time). Departures from Kigali to the domestic destination Kamembe(bordering Bukavu, DRC) have been adjusted to 0700HRS(local time). Keeping in view the need to connect important regional business centers as Goma, RwandAir soon will commence revenue service on the Kigali – Kamembe – Goma – Kigali circuit every Wednesday, Friday & Sunday. Goma, located in eastern DRC becomes the first destination RwandAir is adding to its network this year as part of its network expansion plans.
RwandAir is aggressively expanding its fleet to keep up with the renewed level of interest to connect East Africa with the world and by 2013; the airline expects to have a combined ‘owned, operated and maintained’ fleet of six aircraft. Commenting on the fleet acquisition plans of the airline, RwandAir CEO Gerald Zirimwabagabo said, “We are not only aiming to have a strong passenger revenue driven network, but also explore the largely uncharted cargo potential presented by demand in the region coupled with Rwanda’s strategic location at the heart of the continent”. Adding to this, Capt. Jack Ekl, Chief Operating Officer of RwandAir said, “We are completely revamping internal operations, matching the best equipment and technology to the best talent. Our aim is to have an efficient, reliable and safe service for all who choose to fly with us”. The first CRJ aircraft to be flown commercially was delivered to Lufthansa in October 1992 and since then over 1000 CRJs have since been delivered to over forty airlines worldwide. Majority of these aircrafts are used for passenger transport services, especially for regional utilization in the US and Europe. The CRJ200 is reputed for its comfort, safety and reliability especially on regional routes.
