Ethiopian Airlines begins new routes to China

African carrier Ethiopian Airlines has started running flights to Hangzhou, the fourth destination in China that the company offers services to.

Flights to Addis AbabaTravellers will also be able to fly direct from Addis Ababa to Beijing on the firm's Boeing 777-200LR planes.

According to the airline, the new service to Hangzhou will be particularly useful for vacationers who want to get to Shanghai, as the high-speed train can reach there within 45 minutes.

The company added that the new addition to its schedule is "ideally located" for business people as well as those heading to China for other purposes.

Tewolde GebreMariam, chief executive officer of Ethiopian Airlines, commented: "This new operation to Hangzhou reinforces our commitment to the Chinese travelling public and the strong ties between China and Africa."

Earlier this year, the carrier negotiated a code-sharing agreement with an airline based in Mozambique, which could provide its customers with greater flexibility when travelling within Africa.
