Unfortunately, KD Air has ceased operations.

KD Air no longer flies. It ceased operations in 2019.

About KD Air

KD Air was a Canadian airline that flew regular passenger flights between 1990–2019. The airline was based at Qualicum Beach Airport (XQU) and, at the time that it stopped flying, to 5 destinations across Canada. Although mainly based at Qualicum Beach Airport, the airline also had a secondary base at the South Terminal of the Vancouver International Airport.

KD Airlines launched in 1990 and served the Canadian Coast of British Columbia for nearly 30 years, providing regular links from Qualicum Beach and Vancouver and focussing on offering safe, reliable and convenient flights.

As well as scheduled flights, KD Air also flew charter services throughout British Columbia and Alberta for businesses, weekend getaways, as well as scenic tours over British Columbia's mountain ranges.

The airline temporarily stopped flying in 2019 to make airline improvements. It was supposed to resume flying in March of the same year. However, the airline never flew again. Since then, the airline and Transport Canada has confirmed that it has stopped flying indefinitely and no longer holds an air operators certificate (AOC).

Destinations

KD Air flew to several destinations across British Columbia. The destinations it flew to were:

  • Gillies Bay
  • Port Alberni
  • Powell River
  • Qualicum Beach
  • Tofino
  • Vancouver

Baggage

Passengers were entitled to 40 lbs (18kg) of baggage per passenger for all flights.

Cabin Classes

KD Air flew small planes so it only had one cabin, which would've been classed as Economy Class. Although, its Economy Class was different from the Economy Class that is expected from larger airlines. For example, the airline had no in-flight services and a very small crew (a pilot and maybe one crew member).

Seats

Seats were set out in a 1 x 1 formation and flights had the capacity to seat up to 6 or 10 passengers per flight, depending on the plane being used for the flight.

In-Flight Entertainment and Wi-Fi

There was no in-flight WIFI or entertainment for KD Air flights.

Food and Drink

The airline didn't serve food and drink in-flight. Passengers were welcome to bring their own food and drink with them on the flight. However, the food and drink had to be able to pass through airport security in order for passengers to bring it on the flight.

Frequent Flyer and Airline Alliance

The airline didn't offer a frequent flyer programme and wasn't a member of an airline alliance.

Check-In Information

Online Check-In

The airline didn't offer online check-in.

Airport Check-In

Passengers had to check-in for their flight at the airport. The check-in deadline was 30 minutes before scheduled flight departure time.

Hub Airport

Qualicum Beach Airport

Qualicum Beach Airport (XQU) is an airport based in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia. It was the main hub for KD Air. Although, in fact, KD Air flew more routes from its secondary base at Vancouver International Airport. The airport is small, with just one runway and a very small terminal.

Since KD Air stopped flying, there are no longer any commercial scheduled airlines that use the airport. KD Air was the last airline to fly there on a regular basis.

Fleet

At the time that it stopped flying, KD Air flew with a fleet of Piper PA-31-350 Chieftain and Piper PA-32-260 Cherokee Six. It had one of each plane within its fleet.
