With Rex Regional Express, you can take both carry-on and checked baggage onboard your flight. Weight and size restrictions apply, and your checked baggage allowance depends on the fare type you purchase.
Passengers travelling on Rex regional services are entitled to carry up to 7kg of carry-on baggage. The total linear dimensions (length + width + height) must not exceed 105cm.
Passengers may also bring certain personal items, such as a handbag, small backpack, laptop, coat, blanket, umbrella, walking stick, camera or reading material. These items are part of the permitted carry-on allowance rather than an additional baggage allowance.
Crutches and prosthetic devices that passengers depend on for mobility can be carried in addition to the standard allowance.
Checked baggage must not exceed 140cm in total linear dimensions.
Community, Promo and Saver fares include one checked bag weighing up to 15kg, while Flex fares include one bag weighing up to 23kg.
Infants travelling on an adult's lap receive a combined 10kg allowance across two items, such as a bag, pram or car seat. Infants with their own seat receive the allowance included with their fare.
Passengers with an international air or cruise connection within 24 hours may qualify for a 23kg allowance on presentation of their itinerary.
Mobility aids are excluded from the standard baggage allowance. Dangerous goods are not permitted.
Excess baggage can be added to your booking when booking with Alternative Airlines subject to an extra charge. Excess baggage is carried subject to available space and may travel on a later flight.
Individual baggage items weighing more than 32kg cannot be accepted as passenger baggage and must be transported as air freight. Bags exceeding the permitted 140cm linear dimensions may also incur an oversize baggage fee.
Rex Regional Express currently offers Economy Class on its regional flights, operated by Saab 340 turboprop aircraft. The airline previously operated Boeing 737-800 aircraft with both Business and Economy Class cabins, but these are no longer part of its current scheduled passenger network.
Rex's Saab 340 aircraft have between 30 and 36 seats. Passengers can select standard seats or purchase extra legroom through Rex's Rextra Legroom option, subject to availability.
Rex doesn't have an in-flight entertainment system installed on its aircraft. However, passengers can read Truly Aus, Rex's bimonthly in-flight magazine featuring stories about Australian destinations, people and businesses.
Passengers are also welcome to bring their own personal electronic devices on board which can be used in flight mode when the fasten seatbelt signs are switched off.
There's no Wi-Fi network available onboard Rex Regional Express flights.
All Rex fares include complimentary light refreshments, with a choice of water, tea or coffee and a sweet or savoury snack. Additional snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are available to purchase onboard.
Alcoholic drinks are available to purchase after 11am, except on Gulf and Cape York routes, where a no-alcohol policy applies. Onboard purchases are usually cash-only, but EFTPOS is available on flights in Western Australia and South Australia.

Regional Express Holdings (Rex), an Australian domestic carrier, has ambitious plans to ramp to services on its domestic network in 2021, thanks to new jet aircraft. This will be possible thanks to the proposed new jet services on domestic routes. Rex hopes to build up a fleet of 30-40 narrowbody jets, which will increase capacity on the carrier’s popular routes. The airline has already wet-leased six Boeing 737-800s. These aircraft will initially be launched on the Sydney (SYD)-Melbourne (MEL) route, which was one of the carrier’s busiest domestic routes prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
30th March 2021
Rex has launched two new routes from Gold Coast Airport, and will now fly to Melbourne and Sydney. From April, both services are operated twice-daily and are set to boost competition on two of the busiest routes from the Cold Coast. The launch of these new routes comes as domestic flights continue to grow following the Coronavirus pandemic.
