'Maxi-moons' are becoming increasingly popular
Couples who are organising their wedding are increasingly opting to take longer trips abroad for their honeymoons, an expert has claimed.
Newlyweds may be inspired to plan an extended break overseas and book a flight to Costa Rica with TACA in light of the editor of 101honeymoons.co.uk Jane Anderson's observation that more and more people are travelling for between a month and a year after they get hitched.
She noted that honeymooners are starting to look beyond conventional breaks for their romantic post-wedding holiday.
Ms Anderson explained that some are using their "new start in life" as an excuse to go on a "romantic gap-year before settling down".
"Honeymooners are becoming a lot more adventurous and incorporating anything from trekking to scuba diving, but doing it in a luxurious way," she commented.
In a piece for the Guardian, travel writer Tim Ecott listed the Costa Rican islands of Cocos and Malpelo among the top ten dive sites in the world.
