Buy Xtra Airways Flights with Alternative Airlines

Xtra Airways rebranded to Avelo Airlines

Xtra Airways has now rebranded to Avelo Airlines in April 2021 after the current CEO, Andrew Levy, acquired Xtra Airways in August 2018.

About Xtra Airways

The airline was founded in 1987 in the name of Casino Express Airlines and commenced operations in 1989. It was operating domestically in the U.S during that time using the Boeing 737-200 aircraft. As the airline expanded, it started operating charter flights for different client bases including sports teams, corporates, etc.

In 2005, the airline changed its name to Xtra Airways and moved its base to Boise, Idaho. In 2016, the airline started operating the Boeing 737-800 alongside its Boeing 737-400 aircraft. The airline is now owned by Andrew Levy, who is a former CFO of United Continental Holding and the Co-founder of Allegiant Air. It is expected that the airline will announce its scheduled services by the end of 2020.

Baggage Policy

Baggage allowance depends on the airline that Xtra Airways is representing.

Baggage allowance issued to the ticket should be clearly stated to your e-ticket or at the time of booking.

As a general rule, any baggage exceeding 32kg would not be accepted by the airline due to Health and Safety regulation.

Check-In

Xtra Airways passengers had to check in at the airport since the airline didn't offer online check in.

Online Check-in

Online check-in is not available for this airline.

Airport Check-in

As online check-in is not available, passengers must check-in at the airport.

All passengers should proceed to the airport check-in counters or the self-service kiosks to complete check-in. Check-in location should be clearly marked by signs and directed from the departure information board. In order to check-in, passengers must check-in on-time with the valid photo travel document including passport, driving licence or birth certificates.

Airline Alliance

As a charter airline that operates routes based on demand, the airline isn't a member of any airline alliance as there are no benefits to the airline.

What a great way to be able to see my family back in South Africa. This is made possible since we can buy our tickets and pay it off over 4 months. With the price of flight tickets so high Alternative Airlines has been a literal lifesaver!

Fleet

As of July 2020, Xtra Airways operates with a fleet of Boeing B737-400 and B737-800 aircraft. The Boeing 737 aircraft are narrowbody aircraft that fly short to medium-haul routes.

The airline's original fleet was sold to Swift Air.

Destinations

The destinations are yet to be announced by Xtra Airways. It will only operate charter flights in summer 2020 before releasing their full schedule before the end of 2020.

Despite the lack of clarity on the routes that the airline will be operating in the future, their decision on using the Boeing 737 shows that its ambition lay on the regional services in North America.
