About Xpress Air

Xpress Air formerly known as Express Air was a domestic airline that operated regular scheduled flights from its hub base, Raja Haji Fisabilillah International Airport (TNJ) in Tanjung Pinang, Bintan, Riau Islands, Indonesia. Express Air began commercial operations between Jayapura and Jakarta in June 2003. In 2012, Express Air changed its branding name to Xpress in order to represent a more modern and customer-friendly airline. The airline later added international routes to Malaysia in 2014. Unfortunately, Xpress Air ceased all operations in 2021.

Xpress Air has became one of the major airlines in Eastern Indonesia. and flew to 20 domestic destinations within Indonesia. The airline is underwent a major fleet expansion in order to serve more cities across the West-East Papua axis, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku region. Xpress Air had planned to offer routes to the western regions and started connecting people to Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Kalimantan, Pontianak and more.

The airline started with two Boeing 737s and ended with a fleet of the size of 10 Boeing's, ATR's and Dornier's which could carry 473 total number of passengers at one time.

Baggage Allowance

The airline's luggage included all bags, carry-ons, laptop bags, purses and other items.

Checked Baggage

Xpress Air passengers were allowed to take with them 10kg of free checked baggage on the Boeing and Dornier aircraft.

Items exceeding the permitted size and weight would not be accepted as checked baggage.

Xpress Air customers could add baggage to its booking when booking with Alternative Airlines. Any baggage exceeding 32kg would not be accepted by the airline as checked baggage.

Carry-on Baggage

The airline permitted each passenger to bring with them a 5kg carry on baggage and a personal item on the Boeing aircraft, however, 2kg carry on baggage allowance on Dornier aircraft. Carry-on baggage could not exceed 50 cm x 32 cm x 16 cm in three dimensions on Boeing aircraft and 25 cm x 15 cm x 8 cm on Dornier aircraft.

Carry-on baggage had to be stored in the overhead lockers or under the seat.

Prohibited items couldn't be carried on board and would be confiscated by airport security. Prohibited items except for dangerous goods could be stored in checked baggage.

Check-in Information

Online Check-In

Online check-in before the flight was available for passengers using Xpress Air. Passengers could easily complete the check-in process at home before leaving for the airport. The airline's online check-in opened 2 hours before the scheduled departure time and closed 45 minutes before departure time. You could then print your boarding pass after checking in.

Web check-in could be completed via the airline website. Passengers had to fill in their booking reference and name to proceed with check-in.

Airport Check-In

As passengers arrived at the airport they would hand in their boarding pass and the airline would check in their luggage. The airline recommended passengers arrive a few hours before their scheduled departure time. The airline crew from there would be ready to help in the check-in and boarding process.

Passengers were advised to report to the check-in counters when they arrived at the airport to ensure check-in was completed on time.

Cabin Classes

The airline mainly operated small flights and had only one cabin class on its aircraft, the standard Economy class. The airline offered you many amenities including the one free checked piece of baggage, snacks, drinks and the option of choosing your seat.

Seats

Seats were laid out in a 3 x 3 formation depending on the aircraft, ensuring that each passenger would sit by either a window, aisle or both.

In-flight Entertainment

The airline didn't offer an inflight entertainment screen, however, what it did offer was an inflight magazine called the 'xpressair' to keep you entertained on your flight.

As of 2021, the airline is no longer operating flights to the destinations below. In October 2020, the airline had scheduled flights to 20 domestic destinations within Indonesia. These destinations included Balikpapan, Bandar Lampung, Banjarbaru Banyuwangi, Batam and many more. Raja Haji Fisabilillah International Airport (TNJ) is a public international airport in Tanjung Pinang, Bintan, Riau Islands, Indonesia. The airport serves over 230,000 passengers each year. The airport is located in the 10km east of Tanjung Pinang. It's the second largest airport in Riau Islands, after the Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam.
