The airline is based in Shandong, China, and is wholly owned by Nanshan Group.
Established in 1992, Air Chang’an has an interesting history as it was merged with Hainan Airlines in 2000. In October 2002, Chang’an Airlines was further merged to be operated by Hainan Airlines with Xinhua Airlines and Shaanxi Airlines together sharing the IATA code and airlines logo.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is an airport that serves the city of Qingdao in the Shandong province of China. The airport was built to replace Qingdao Liuting International Airport which closed down in 2021. Qingdao Airlines used to be based at Qingdao Liuting International Airport before it shut down - it now operates its flights from Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport.
This airport opened in 2021 and is currently the largest airport in Shandong. It's also a hub for Shandong Airlines. Other airlines that fly to/from this airport include Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and XiamenAir, among others.
