About Mandala Airlines
Mandala Airlines, also known as Tigerair Mandala, was a low-cost carrier based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The airline was first originated by members of an Indonesian military dictatorship and was originally a full-service carrier, the dictatorship ended in 1988 and the airline was sold by the military. Mandala Airlines ceased operations in 2011 before being bought by Tiger Airways who renamed the airline, Tigerair Mandala.
Tigerair Mandala flew to regions in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, including Java and Sumatra.
Baggage Allowance
Carry-on Baggage Allowance
Tigerair Mandala's carry-on baggage policy meant that carry-on bags could weigh no more than 8kg to 10kg and be no larger than 45 inches in size. Passengers were also entitled to personal items such as a camera, laptop or handbag. Those who were flying on smaller aircraft with less than 50 seats were only entitled to carry on one personal item and no larger carry-on baggage.
Checked Baggage Allowance
Tigerair Mandala had a checked baggage policy that meant no baggage could be larger than 62 inches in size and no heavier than 20kg to 23kg depending on the fare type. For any excess baggage, passengers would be charged extra with the price depending on how much extra weight there was.
Cabin Class
When Tigerair Mandala was operating its flights, the airline only offered a single cabin class on its Airbus A320 aircraft. This cabin class was a low-frills fare that didn't provide passengers with any in-flight entertainment and had a buy-on-board food and drinks service for passengers wanting refreshments.
In-flight Entertainment
When passengers flew with Tigerair Mandala there was no in-flight entertainment provided onboard the aircraft except for the in-flight magazine located in the seat pocket. Passengers had to be self reliant on entertainment during their flights.

Online check-in
Passengers who flew with Tigerair Mandala were able to check in for their flight online before they arrived at the airport. Web check-in allowed them to check in prior to arriving at the airport and print off their boarding pass, saving them time once at the airport. Passengers were also able to book seats, select in-flight meals and check all luggage in.

In most instances, check-in opens 2 hours before scheduled departure and it was recommended that passengers arrived as early as possible for their flight.

The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is the main airport in Jakarta, Indonesia and was named after the first president and vice president of the island, Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta. The airport began its domestic services on the 1st of May 1985 to replace the over-used and overcrowded Kemayoran Airport.
