About Go First
Go First was an Indian airline that flew passenger flights to destinations within Asia. The airline was based at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), which is also known as Mumbai Airport. Go First was a rebrand of GoAir — GoAir is the name that the airline flew under from 2005–2021.
Go First flew to lots of different domestic destinations within India — more than 30 in total. The airline also flew to international destinations all across Asia, targetting cities that are popular leisure spots, such as Bangkok, Dubai, Muscat and Colombo.
The airline launched flights as GoAir in 2005 with a flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. For its first few years of flying, the airline flew to just 4 destinations — Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Goa and Coimbatore. In 2008, the airline launched a load of new flights travelling to destinations in the North East and South of India. In the years following, the airline focussed on domestic flights, gradually building its route network out to offer its passengers more connections within India. In 2018, Go First flew its first international flight, travelling from New Delhi to Phuket, Thailand.
The airline was temporarily grounded in 2020. It returned to the skies before the end of the year and then, in early 2021, rebranded from GoAir to Go First. The airline unfortunately ceased operations in May 2023.
Baggage Policy
Passengers were given a free carry-on baggage allowance AND a free checked baggage allowance, route dependent.
Carry-on Baggage
Passengers were given a free carry-on baggage allowance of 7kg.
This baggage could not exceed the overall dimensions of 108cm (42.5").
Checked Baggage
On domestic flights, passengers weren't given a free checked baggage allowance.
On international flights, the free checked baggage allowance was as follows:
- 20kg of free checked baggage allowance on flights from India to: Phuket, Bangkok, Male, Colombo
- 30kg of free checked baggage allowance on flights from India to: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Doha, Sharjah, Dammam, Kuwait, Muscat
No piece of baggage could exceed the overall dimensions of 158 cm (62").
Excess baggage was available to purchase at a fee.
Cabin Classes
GoFirst was an ultra-low-cost airline. It only flew with an Economy Class cabin so that it could keep costs down and offer lower-priced tickets.
Economy
The Economy Class cabin was a stripped-back and simple service but gave passengers everything they needed for a low-cost, safe and comfortable flight. There was extra that passengers could pay to add to their flight — seat selection, blocking out the middle seat to give more space and in-flight food but the goal of the Economy Class cabin was mainly to get passengers to their destination, without the cost of extra in-flight services.
Seats
Seats were set out in a 3 x 3 configuration.
Check-In
Passengers could check-in for their flight either online before they arrived at the airport or alternatively, once they arrived.
Online Check-in
Online check-in would close 1-2 hours before the scheduled flight departure time, depending on the route flown. For domestic flights, it opened 72 hours before and for international flights it opened 48 hours before.
Airport Check-in
Passengers could check in at the airport for their flight by visiting the airport of departure. Airport check-in closed 1 hour before the scheduled flight departure time. To check-in, passengers had to present the relevant travel documents (e-ticket and ID/passport) to one of the airline check-in agents.
In-Flight Entertainment & Wi-Fi
There was no in-flight entertainment or WIFI onboard Go First's flights. The airline had an in-flight magazine with destination inspiration and the most up-to-date airline news, however, this was subject to availability and might not have been available on every flight.
Food & Drink
Go First had food and drink available to purchase on all flights, with a range of hot drinks (tea and coffees), juices, water, dried noodles, nuts and sandwiches.
Destinations that Go First flew to
Go First flew to more than 35 destinations and flew over 300 daily flights when demand was at regular levels. The airline flew to destinations in India such as Mumbai, Delhi, Goa, Jaipur, Mangalore, Pune, and Lucknow. Internationally, the airline flew to destinations such as Colombo, Phuket, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Hub Airport
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), also known as Mumbai Airport, is the main airport in Mumbai, India and was the hub airport for Go First. Go First had been using the airport as its hub since it launched flights in 2005 with a service from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The airport itself has 2 runways and 2 terminal buildings. Before 2021, the airline was based at Terminal 1. But, from 2021 onwards, the airline had moved to Terminal 2 and used the terminal as its base until it ceased operations.
Go First also had a secondary hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi (DEL), where it connected many destinations within India. The airline used Terminal 3 at Delhi airport.
Other airlines that use Mumbai airport include Air India, Vistara, Air Asia and IndiaOne Air.
Fleet
The airline had a fleet of Airbus A320 planes. It used both Airbus A320-200 and Airbus A320-neo aircraft.
