The F1 races, formally known as Formula 1 is an international, high intensity, single seater formula racing. It is considered to be the top league of motorsport. It involves 10 teams with 20 drivers who compete in a global season of the Grand Prix, these cars are highly technical piece of machinery that can reach speeds of 200 mph.
When do they race and how are they scored?
The drivers week consists of practice sessions, the qualifier and then the race which typically takes place on Sundays. The drivers receive points if they are in the top 10, with the winner receiving 25 points plus there is a point given to the driver who did the fastest lap. Formula 1 races typically last between 1 hour and a half to 1 hours, this fluctuates as it can be impacted by safety cars going on the track or red flags that halt the action.
Who are the F1 teams?
Formula 1 is a teams sport, so many people working together to design and builds their cars and get them prepped to race. During a race, each driver has a pit stop, this is when their team engineers have approx 2 seconds to change the cars tires before getting back on the track. It is incredibly stressful, and every change needs to be done with highest confidence as the drivers life is at risk.
