City Airlines is a subsidiary airline of Lufthansa. Established in 2022, it aims to become a prominent player in the aviation industry. City Airlines launched operations in June 2024 and is based at Munich Airport where it provides essential connections between Munich and various cities across the European Union.
City Airlines obtained its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) in 2023. Its fleet currently consists of 5 narrow-body aircraft, predominantly featuring Airbus A320s transferred from Lufthansa Cityline. The airline is strategically planning dual bases in Munich and Frankfurt.
Lufthansa has emphasised that the new subsidiary airline aims to fill market gaps that aren't being addressed by its other subsidiary, Lufthansa Cityline.
Destinations
City Airlines currently operates flights to:
- Bordeaux, France
- Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover and Munich in Germany
- Birmingham, United Kingdom
More destinations are being added continuously to City Airlines' network. It plans to eventually operate services to other European cities like Berlin, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Warsaw, Vienna, Dublin and more.
Baggage Allowance
City Airlines baggage allowance is the same as Lufthansa's, its partner company.
Carry-on Baggage
- Passengers flying in Economy with City Airlines can bring one carry-on bag for free.
- Business Class passengers can bring two carry-on bags for free.
- Each bag must weigh no more than 8kg and fit within the 55 x 40 x 23cm size restriction.
- All City Airlines passengers are allowed one small personal item.
Checked Baggage
- Economy Light passengers can bring one carry-on bag for free. Checked baggage is available for an extra fee.
- Economy Classic & Flex passengers get one free checked bag, with a maximum weight of 23kg.
- Business Class (within Europe) passengers are allowed two checked bags, each weighing up to 32kg.
Cabin Classes
City Airlines operates flights across the EU with a fleet of short-haul, narrow-body aircraft. It currently offers Economy Class and Business Class.
Economy Class
When flying with City Airlines, there are 4 Economy fares available - Economy Light, Classic, Green and Flex.
- Economy Light is the most affordable fare and is ideal for travellers only taking carry-on baggage.
- Economy Class offers standard economy service and amenities.
- Economy Green allows you to travel sustainably with reduced CO2 emissions.
- Economy Flex gives you the flexibility to rebook and get a refund.
Business Class
- City Airlines' business class fare includes a free middle seat, lounge access, two pieces of free cabin baggage and flexible booking options.
- On some routes, you can choose between the Business Flex fare for full flexibility or the limited Business Saver fare.
- Business Green is also available if you'd like to help support sustainable aviation fuels and offset your CO2 emissions.
Check-In Information
Online Check-in
- To check in for your City Airlines flight, you can do so on the official City Airlines check-in page.
- Online check-in is available from 30 hours before your City Airlines flight is scheduled to depart.
Airport Check-in
- City Airlines passengers can check in at the airport using either staffed Lufthansa desks or self-service kiosks. To avoid delays, we recommend arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before domestic flight departures and 3 hours before international flight departures.
