Founded in 2013, WestJet Encore is a Canadian airline that offers scheduled passenger services domestically within Canada, as well as a small number of international routes to the United States. WestJet Encore is a subsidiary of WestJet and was created with the aim to offer services from the major cities in Canada to small cities and towns within Canada that its parent company does not have a focus on serving. WestJet Encore is based at Calgary International Airport with a secondary hub at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
WestJet Encore gained its AOC in mid-2013 and operated its inaugural service shortly after with a flight between Calgary International Airport and Saskatoon, Nanaimo.
WestJet Encore launched international flights in 2016, with a flight from Calgary International to Boston Logan Airport and continued to add a number of other international flights to the United States in the years following.
Baggage Policy
If you're flying with WestJet Encore, you will need to follow the different rules around carry-on and checked baggage allowances. These will vary depending on the route you're flying and the cabin class you're flying in.
Carry-on Baggage
Passengers with a ticket on WestJet Encore flights are entitled to one item of carry-on baggage which must not exceed the dimensions of 53 cm x 38 cm x 23 cm. In addition to this, passengers on WestJet Encore flights may bring one personal item, which must fit within the dimensions of 41 cm x 33 cm x 15 cm. WestJet Encore does not state a maximum weight for either bag.
Checked Baggage
The first piece of checked baggage on WestJet Encore flights is free for passengers flying in all classes except on the Basic, Econo or Member Exclusive fare. Passengers on the Basic, Econo or Member Exclusive must purchase any checked baggage they wish to bring with them on the flight.
WestJet Encore passengers in Premium or Business are entitled to two items of checked baggage free. Any additional baggage must be purchased.
All WestJet Encore passengers are allowed a maximum of three pieces of baggage on their flight, whether its included in the price of their fare or has been purchased as additional baggage.
No one piece of baggage can weigh more than 23kg or exceed the overall dimensions of 157 cm.
Check-In
If you're flying with WestJet Encore, you can check in online or at the airport.
Online Check-In
WestJet Encore online check-in is available through the WestJet Encore online check-in page. Online check-in can be completed by entering the relevant flight details on the page and is open between 24—1 hour before scheduled flight departure time.
Airport Check-In
WestJet Encore passengers can also check-in for their flights by visiting a WestJet Encore check-in agent at the airport counter, which opens three hours before scheduled flight departure time. Or, by visiting the self-service kiosk, which opens 24 hours before scheduled flight departure time.
Airport check-in closes 45 minutes before flight departure time on WestJet Encore domestic flights and 60 minutes before flight departure time on WestJet Encore international flights.

Hub Airport
Calgary International Airport
Calgary International Airport is the main international airport in Calgary and the hub airport for WestJet Encore. The airport is situated in Alberta and is the fourth busiest airport in Canada by passengers carried and aircraft movement. The airport was built in the 1930s and is split into two terminals with four different runways. One terminal facilitates all domestic flights, while the other facilitates all international flights. The two terminals are connected by a walkway, but the airport also offers free transport between them.
Other than WestJet Encore, Calgary International Airport also serves as a hub for WestJet, Jasper By Air, Air Georgian and Air Canada.
Fleet
Unlike its parent airline, WestJet Encore operates smaller turboprop aircraft. Currently, the airline has over 45 Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft within its fleet, which has been the only aircraft that it has operated since its inception in 2013.
