Things to do in Tokyo
Tokyo has an abundance of exciting things to do so it can be overwhelming choosing what attractions you want to see during your stay. Here are our top 3 things to do in Tokyo:
Senso-ji Temple
Senso-ji Temple, also known as Asakusa Kannon-do, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Tokyo. The history of this temple dates back to 645 AD. According to legend, there were two fishermen who found a small statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, floating in the Sumida River. The fishermen built a small shrine to house this statue which then became the foundation of Senso-ji Temple.
If you plan to visit Senso-ji Temple, try to get a picture in front of the iconic Kaminarimon Gate. You can also bring a souvenir home from one of the shops lining Nakamise Street which leads up to the entrance of the temple. Senso-ji Temple is free to enter, however, you will need cash with you if you want to light incense or buy charms in the temple.
Shibuya Crossing
Shibuya Crossing is in the centre of Tokyo's Shibuya district. It's one of the busiest pedestrian crossings in the world with over 2 million crossings per day! What's so unique about the crossing? Its special synchronisation system means that people from all directions can cross safely at the same time, creating a mesmerising yet chaotic atmosphere. With this in mind, be aware of your belongings at all times.
There's plenty to see and do after experiencing the crossing. Shibuya Crossing is surrounded by many department stores, shopping centres and entertainment venues, including Shibuya 109 and Shibuya Hikarie.
Tokyo Tower
