Avianca El Salvador is an airline in El Salvador and the only international airline in the country. The airline is based at Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL) and flies to more than 20& destinations across the Americas.
The airline launched as the El Salvador branch of TACA airlines in the 1930s. Initially, TACA had a plan to run an airline in each Latin-American country. However, after 10 years of flying, all of TACA& airlines created went out of business and the El Salvador version of the airline was the only one that survived. As a result, in 1945, the surviving TACA Airlines moved its base to El Salvador to operate all flights from there and became the national carrier of the country.
In the years following, the airline grew significantly, creating several subsidiaries that flew to many different destinations across the Americas. In 2009, the airline merged with Avianca and by 2013, the merger was complete. Upon the merger, TACA was renamed as Avianca El Salvador, which is what it's known as today. The airline kept all of its routes and has continued to expand and grow as the main airline in El Salvador ever since.
