Holidaymakers travelling to south-east Asia on Vietnam Airlines flights may want to ensure they are in Vietnam in time for the Oc Om Festival in December.
The religious ceremony takes place on December 15th and is held to thank the moon god for bringing good crops and to pay for the health of devotees.
One of the highlights of the proceedings for tourists with flights to Hanoi will be the flying of paper lanterns and the traditional Ngo boat race.
This involves wooden boats carved on both the bow and the stern competing in a test of speed the day before the full moon.
As well as the race and lanterns, locals give offerings to the moon god, which often includes green rice flakes, bananas and fresh peeled coconuts.
While in Vietnam, visitors may want to head to some of the other sites of interest, such as the Cu Chi tunnels, which were used by the Viet Cong during the Tet Offensive.
Use Alternative Airlines to book your cheap flights to Hanoi.
