Holidaymakers with Vietnam Airlines flights booked may soon be encouraged to visit the nation's salt parks.
The Union of Science for Sustainable Tourism Development (USSTD) has unveiled a scheme to develop a tourism industry based on the production of salt.
Among the ideas suggested was the creation of sculptures made from salt.
Nguyen Thu Thanh, chairman of the USSTD, commented: "Combining salt production with tourism is a way of capitalising on the popularity of the coast."
However, the expert said that in order to successfully develop the plans, all of the country's tourism sectors would have to participate and contribute.
People with flights to Hanoi booked may also want to visit Hoan Kiem Lake, which has been described as the "emerald jewel" of the city.
