Vietnam Airlines will increase the number of aircraft in its fleet by almost 50 per cent over the coming four years.
The carrier already has 70 planes at its disposal, but this number is set to rise by 34 as new jets will be put into operation between 2011 and 2015, according to a Nguoi Lao Dong article cited by Thanh Nien News.
Eight A321-200 aircrafts will be leased to the firm by the government during this period and permission has been granted by prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung for the company to purchase another 26 planes.
This will take the total number of aircraft owned by Vietnam Airlines up from 32 to 58.
Last month, the carrier announced that it will be operating non-stop flights to London from the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by the end of 2011.
It will be the only direct link between the UK and the south-east Asian nation.
