Vancouver to host apple festival in October

Those with flights to Vancouver in October may want to consider making a stop at the UBC Botanical Garden for the annual Apple Festival.

Flights to VancouverHeld on October 15th and 16th, the event will feature more than 60 different varieties of the region's favourite fruit.

Such is the popularity of the gathering that in past years up to 13,500 kg of apples have been sold to the thousands of attendees.

For gourmands with a taste for the crunchy fruit, the event could prove an essential stop, as for only $3 (£1.95), visitors can try each of the varieties on offer.

Among the heritage apples those with Air Transat flights to Canada will be able to sample are Grimes Golden and Ambrosia.

Horticulturalists trying to start their own orchard may also benefit from the trip as there will be master gardeners on hand to discuss apple-related diseases and pests.

The UBC Botanical Garden was founded in 1916 and it spans 78 acres.
