Montenegro Airlines flights may be in greater demand over the coming years in light of new figures, which suggest that by 2021 tourism will account for 36 per cent of the nation's gross domestic product.
According to research conducted by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Oxford Economics, Montenegro will experience the greatest growth in this area of any country in the world, reports the Independent.
In the first quarter of 2011, visitor numbers rose 2.6 per cent, with 71.8 per cent of travellers opting for breaks on the coast.
The nation's tourist authorities noted that a number of hotel developments - for example those by Hilton International and Four Seasons - are likely to fuel the interest in flights to Podgorica and other locations.
By 2021, the WTTC study suggested one in three jobs will be somehow related to the travel and tourism trade.
In the latest Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index compiled by the World Economic Forum, the nation rose to number 36, up 16 places from its 2009 ranking.
