TAM Airilnes of Brazil has announced its winter flying programme from Europe to Brazil which, due to lack of suitable aircraft, has meant fewer services to Rio de Janeiro, but which also maintains the important daily service to Sao Paulo.
For Summer 2011, Tam Airlines flew six times a week between London Heathrow and Rio De Janeiro on Fridays, Saturdays and Wednesdays. The reason TAM has been forced to halve the frequency on this popular is the lack of availability on any of its fleet of Airbus A330 aircraft, however the reduction is only temporary with new aircraft planned to extend TAM's fleet in 2012 and the resumption of the six times a week frequency the first priority once the new aircraft are in service.
Passengers wishing to use TAM airlines to get to Rio from London can combine the three times weekly service with an indirect routing using the daily service to Sao Paulo.
Rio De Janeiro will be a city at the centre of world over the next few years with the 2014 FIFA World Cup taking place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014. In addition Rio de Janeiro will be the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games which are due to be to be held from August 5 to 21, 2016.
